Went to America's Tire for five tire rotation on my MT BB ATs and this is what they did...somehow put the spare on the left front and I'm not sure how else it went...dude swore that's how they always do it. I couldn't find anywhere on the web where the spare was moved to the left front position, wth? Everything I've found always brings the spare to the right rear.

America's Tire own website shows this is what they do for five tire rotation, their site calls it the Preferred five-tire rotation.

This is what I wanted, when I questioned the fresh spare tire on the left front, they asked if wanted re-done and they did for me. Not sure they did the other four tires properly, but it's easy to see they did the fresh spare as requested. There's also the five tire rotation with rearward cross, need to check my manual lol. What is your preferred method?

I’d give credit for this, but don’t recall where I found it:

I rotate my tires 2-3 times a year, i use a simple clockwise rotation, including the spare always. Its tough to forget.

Don't be the guy that ends up with 4 bald tires and a new spare. You will get 20-25% more tire mileage if you include the spare in the rotation.

i'll bet that's not what the tire manufacturer would recommend if you were to contact them.

So, my local "offroad shop" told me it's bad to cross rotate mud- or all-terrain tires, stating that it breaks down the belts and causes failure. Is this a flat-earther thing, or is it credible?

that website doesn't even show the spare going on the front tire in their 5-tire diagram. furthermore in text they even state that the spare goes to the Right Rear.
to me, the 5-tire diagram looks like it's for a front-drive car.
i personally use the 5-tire pattern shown earlier in this thread; crossing the fronts to the rear, and swapping in the spare for the Right Rear.

I do the 5 tire rotation every 3k miles. I was happy to find someone who never rotated in their spare 35 and was selling it for $70 when I needed to buy one replacement tire though,

Same as @BDinTX graphic, but more legible (to me). I keep in iPhone note with all my other maintenance info.

I’d give credit for this, but don’t recall where I found it:

Took the 2024 Ram 2500 4x4 that I just picked up a few months ago to the @Discount Tire shop closest to me because I was having some vibration on the highway. They balanced the tires properly, rotated (in the correct cross pattern) them, and checked my alignment all in about 1 hour on Monday of this week AND didn't even charge me because I've done so much business there over the years. Manager just said "come see me again when you need tires." Gosh I love that place. Now my tow rig runs smooth as glass down the road just like my JL (which they equipped for me last winter).
