Are you able to check/look at your timing belt? IDK why but this noise reminds me of when my dad had me help him change a timing belt. It sort of sounded like this. I don't think this is a noise inside the engine, but it sounds like it's spinning...like a frayed belt or something. Just a guess.

I'm sure some of the gear heads will chime in soon.

I have this same engine in a Cherokee and Wrangler, and they both sound like yours. Normal, unless you’re seeing some unexplained change in performance.

It sounds like loud injectors, but ask your dealer to inspect this.

It could be the beginning stages of a cam follower failure. Very common 3.6L failure.

When port injection then direct injection first came out, the complaints about ticking went way up. Injectors can make a lot of noise. That's why plastic engine covers with insulation or foam engine covers came to be.

It could also be an exhaust leak. Check the manifold bolts, sometimes they come loose or even break. That would absolutely cause an audible tick.

Just changed my oil with 5w30. Ticking is still present but it seems like a few of you say it’s normal. Any other input is appreciated, I’m going to try and find another person with a 3.6 so I can listen to their engine and compare

The timing belt is within the valve cover correct ? Not the external rubber belt ?

Please get this inspected. If this is a cam follower failure, you’re going to destroy the motor.
