I posted his same question on the Gladiator forum but there are a lot more Jeep owners here and I hope I can get your opinions.

Before I go to the dealer about a throttle lag and inconsistency problem and get told by them that "it is normal" or "no problem found", I'd like to hear from you all about what is or is not normal.

Just off idle, like when taking off slowly, my throttle is inconsistent. If I touch it to start moving it usually gives a little jolt of rpm then it flattens out like the engine is hesitating or stalling. From there it feels like it takes a lot of throttle movement to get moving, but I never know just how much to give it. Sometimes it seems more normal. If I hit the gas harder (to take off faster) vs trying to be mellow, it seems relatively consistent. It is difficult to start off with any precision. At stop lights I usually let the guy in front of me go and create more space than usual before I'll start out, lest I run into him.

In park or neutral, if I punch the gas and let off really quickly, my foot will be off the throttle before the engine begins to rev. It will rev pretty high then it will slow back down to idle. If I do the same thing in my Ram (also has electronic throttle), it will react immediately and with a very minimal rpm change and it is done when my foot is off the throttle (it is a diesel, not gas, but it reacts like everything else I've ever driven).

If I do the same quick punch when driving, it causes it to downshift a few gears and the revs hang high long after I have let off. It gets to the point I feel I need to hit the brakes.

At idle if I press the gas just a little and let off quickly, the same lag is there. The rpms lag behind the throttle movement.

It has been like this from day one. Is any of this normal?

P.S. Most of what I wrote about above are tests that consistently demonstrate the abnormal behavior. I don't drive like that (other than trying and failing to start moving smoothly) but some could up in normal driving (such as hitting the gas then letting off but the engine continues to rev).

I've noticed this happen a few times between 1st and 2nd gears. Always when starting from a complete stop (and ESS disabled) and letting off the gas before it shifts to 2nd. The rpm's will hang high for a few seconds before it shifts to 2nd.

It hasn't happened enough for me to be concerned about it.

It's called rev-hang. It's done on purpose to burn any additional fuel and lower emissions. Guess who instituted that???

A Pedal monster will solve the pedal lag. I bought mine at the 300 mile mark as it was just awful to drive. My 22 6spd is my first vehicle with an electronic throttle, the monster made everything linear

I had tried the "push the pedal to the floor" method of pedal calibration more than a few times with no change. It led me to believe that wasn't the problem. A few days ago I hooked up my scan tool and calibrated the pedal with it instead. I think it fixed the off-idle inconsistency. Maybe the non-scan-tool method no longer works?

Reviving an old thread here, but for anyone following this issue, I am in the middle of developing tuning for this platform through HP Tuners. It’ll be much more complete than anything you can get from Superchips or the like, and the number one thing I am going to work on is the throttle response and hesitation these have. Follow my latest new thread for updates and YouTube videos.
