That won't happen with the Auto. You probably would need to put it in 4th of 5th gear.Iowa is not flat. As a native Iowegian who pedaled a bicycle across the state numerous times, I can tell you that for a fact. I drove my new 2024 JLU Sport S MT from Missouri to Iowa last weekend. When I crossed the border and encountered Southern Iowa's hills with the cruise set at 78mph, it quickly fell to 72mph or so before I crested the hill and then it went back up to 78mph. I kinda had to laugh; sure, it's shaped like a brick, what do you expect?? But my 6-speed diesel pickup isn't exactly an aerodynamic fiberglass bullet, and it doesn't do that. However, it has a turbo (Cummins 5.9 liter turbo diesel). Is that the issue here? Is there any way to improve the performance on the interstate?
If every Jeep came with 1,000 ftlbs at any rpm it wouldn't need to be shifted...enter the EV world. You don't need 400ftlbs to drive, you need 400ftlbs to drive up hills in .67 overdrive...or you could you know downshift. I wouldn't comparing if my jlur or jt had 400+ftlbs due sure, but I wouldn't trade either for a bronco even if it had double that.Fixed it for you. If the 3.6L produced >400lb-ft versus 260lb-ft this would be a non-issue.
Wish I knew exactly which gear it was using at a given time, but I'm glad I had the opportunity to get an idea of how to manage my manual more effectively.
There is also a setting in the instrument cluster settings that will display the gear indicator all the time. I have always set that on each JL that we've had and look at it quite frequently. You can check what gear the Auto is in by pulling the shifter to the left into manual mode. Then the D on the dash cluster will change to Mx, with x being the gear it is in. Just don't forget to put it back in Drive. It wont hurt anything if you leave it in manual. But the next time you come to a stop it will autmatically shift down into 2nd, but then wont shift as you speed up. You'll need to shift manually or push it back over to Drive.
I wasn't implying that it does. I was just sharing my observation of how quickly the speed declined going uphill (and not much of one compared to a lot of places) and how it puzzled me compared to every other manual I've driven. I was using the cruise, but it wasn't relevant to my puzzlement. This thread is stupid - cruise control doesn't downshift a manual for you. /thread.
Hilarious...why continue to justify Jeep's lame ass powertains? 260 lb-ft is lame no matter how it is painted. Having 400 lb-ft at altitude makes the Bronco a pleasure to drive versus that of the Wrangler which is a pig. You DON'T need to downshift if the power train produces enough torque. If every Jeep came with 1,000 ftlbs at any rpm it wouldn't need to be shifted...enter the EV world. Some OEM’s are proving wiser than others. Stella is not one of the them….. You want torque- you must buy electrified is nearly here. Meanwhile Ford ups the anti with available tunes for all ICE, with up to 536 lb ft for the 3.0 Braptor.Hilarious...why continue to justify Jeep's lame ass powertains? 260 lb-ft is lame no matter how it is painted. But...forget the Bronco...news flash...there are plenty of other OEMs that don't need to constantly downshift because they make enough torque and they are not EVs.
And there are plenty that don't? Look at the actual competition for a Wrangler for the last 30 years. Toyota v6s were basically the same output for decades and paired to a crap 5 speed auto. And there have been 4 other engine/powertrain (4xe) combos available in different parts of the JL run all of which make more torque than the 3.6L and only one of which makes less than your imaginary cutoff of 400ftlbs. Weird how the TJ guys got around with the 165ftlbs that 4cyl put out but now you need 400 or it's undriveable?Hilarious...why continue to justify Jeep's lame ass powertains? 260 lb-ft is lame no matter how it is painted. Sounds like to me that people settled because that's all there was AND I'm 1 million percent positive at altitude that 130 lb-ft was an absolute treasure to drive. There are choices now, I made mine and will never go back until Jeep builds a non-V8 that produces decent torque. The 3.6L ain't it...And there are plenty that don't? I wouldn’t 48 years ago, hence a HP Chevy swap. I damn sure won’t now.Sounds like to me that people settled because that's all there was AND I'm 1 million percent positive at altitude that 130 lb-ft was an absolute treasure to drive. The even funnier part is despite our protestations to the contrary with RARE exception we all spend more time on road versus off and so, I'll err on the majority versus the minority.
Your point is taken, it just doesn't work for me. I don't need 400, but I also will not tolerate up and downshifting countless times either.
I'm not sure what the answer is short of hybrid/EV. It doesn't seem like Jeep can build an IC engine outside of the 3.0TD and 392 that can produce reasonable torque and make the vehicle fun to drive. But... perhaps I am far (very far) less tolerant than others. I'll take that hit.I wouldn’t 48 years ago, hence a HP Chevy swap. I damn sure won’t now.
With the T-6 getting a whole 1 mpg better than the V8 in a GW should we honestly expect it to be used in Wranglers ?
my 2024 willys with 33's and 4.10 is fine on the highway past 70mph. 6th gear.Yeah, all the 6 speeds were undergeared from the factory. Sports/Saharas should have been 4.10, rubicons 4.56, etc. just saying the minimum gearing to actually use all 6 gears.
