So I feel like an idiot for doing this but I was trying to "gently" peel back the rubber trim going around the center console where the parking brake lever is to clean up a coffee spill (pics for reference) and ended up snapping off a piece of it that keeps it in place. Now it no longer stays in place :crying: and based on how it's designed, doesn't look like it can be repaired.

I always wondered how one goes about getting parts like this replaced -- through the dealer?

EDIT: Based on my title, I wanted to avoid confusion. The plastic tab in the picture with the arrow pointing to it is still there. It would be the rubber piece that's now sticking out that had something break off. I think it was a hook type thing that hooks onto the plastic tab on the center console.

You can’t buy that piece. You have to buy the whole console.$$$ if you reread this thread you will see that no adhesives will work with the type of plastic. I’ve tried them all and talked to the service guy.

Im sorry for your pain, i wish there was a premptive thread saying "dont break off your parking brake trim when you drop your credit card in the e brake" unfortunately no one comes to the threads until its already broken.

Update: so my check engine light came on so i tried to get this warrantied when i took it on for that just this week- they didnt buy it (i was like it just came off when i used the parrking brake) but i also got mine out of a dealer demo/rental fleet @ 3000 miles so i told them i didnt own the car sicne inception). i think its been happening enough now that they are wise to it. They wanted 315 dollars for the console part (even though its 250 ish everywhere else) and 300 labor, so looks like ill be doing the old tape&screw&glue.

Has anyone tried ordering the old part 6kG06TX7AA (if its even available) and "gracefully" cutting off the plastic part and trying to just use that - or replace the whole bezel) - im not even sure if it has the same clips / etc to go into the spot though on the new console design.

P.S> they said they would try to get it on there with doublesided tape for free, but of course i picked up my vehicle this morning and they had done nothing whatsoever - it was still flopsying around. (maybe the taping didnt work or something)

Sigh... so this just happened.
Tried to remove the rubber boot to clean gravy I spilled into the parking brake cave.
Dealer quoted me $350 CAD to replace the whole center console.

And.. here is my attempt to “fix” it using double sided tape.
Guess this will have to do for now to keep it in place until I can find something reasonable to replace it with.
Not shelling out $350 CAD+tax and shipping to replace a piece of rubber.

I was going to fish for french fry or maybe two in there .. good thing I decided not too.. really bad design .. so my idea was to make a boot , possibly from some kind of leatherette , for it in the future so no such accidents happen again. Like the drip rail on the tops ...one of those jeep things

leatherette is a good idea, I’m really hoping for aftermarket to come out with some sort of replacement part, that 1) covers the entire slot, and 2) be designed to be removable.

But alas, I can only dream..

why is it that my 20+ year old Toyota has a better designed parking brake assembly??

owners will have engineer this one most likely..my ideas is trace and cut out an aluminum sheet base and attach the leather that is trimmed to follow the contours of the handle .. something that one would see in any other vehicle basically . Screw holes would be made in the aluminum or maybe even some clips that easily pop out for ease of access .

Much better to spend $35, than do something illegal, like suggested by another here.
If you actually read this thread (I guess you didn’t)
You would know that this rubber boot isn’t part of that $35 part anymore, they moved it so it’s part of the $300 main centre console now.

If you also read this thread, you would know that FCA probably did this intentionally to price gouge.

The intent of my post remains. Be it $35 or $300, it matters not. It's better to be honest than do something illegal or immoral. Dollar amounts do not matter.
Thou shalt not steal. That's number 8, of 10.

I’m sorry, what?
I’m not following, it’s illegal to do what exactly? Nobody has suggested doing anything illegal here.

Again, I’m guessing you didn’t actually read this thread.
