Mr @allieboy I thought of a way I might explain this--assuming I'm not stupid. The analogy is close, not perfect.

Your garage door (3.6L JL starter) sits waiting, capable of securing the electric it needs from an A/C electrial line (either vehicle battery) to open on a moment's notice, simply waiting for you to push the garage door opener button (the starter relay on the ESS battery.)

That garage door opener though (the starter relay) depends upon its own little button cell battery ( the ESS battery). If it's dead, the garage door (the 3.6 JL) is not opening (starting.)

Mr @Jebiruph's excellent jumper hack allows the garage door opener (the starter relay,) if its (ESS) battery is dead, to get its energy from the same source (the main battery) that opens the garage door whenever it needs to open.

Now, is the garage door opener a chain system or belt? (Running to stick my tongue in nearest electrical outlet)

Here's what I think I know. If wrong set me straight. : - )

When cold cranking the 3.6L JL the starter relay is, if only for an instant, solely dependent upon the ESS battery to communicate to the starter.

Otherwise, at all other times, the ESS and main batteries are connected in parallel, free, along with the alternator when the JL is on, to charge each other/get charged (assuming the ESS battery can accept a charge and isn't broken.)

Why do you think FCA designed the small battery of a non-essential system (ESS) the critical task of powering the starter relay?

Even if the ESS battery fails while the vehicle is running, the ESS system won't engage, to need the vehicle's starter relay to signal the starter to restart the stopped JL in the first place--right?

I'm very confused. I don't even know if my prior paragraph is factual. To this point, are separate starters or mechanisms involved in cold cranking, versus ESS cranking the vehicle?

Thank you.

This is exactly why I try to do everything myself, unless Iā€™m hawking over them and handholding like a babysitter, did you put in the right oil? Did you let it drain out completely? Did you change the filter? Did you fill the right amount? Did you thread the nut correctly? Did you torque it to spec? Did you close the cap correctly? I wouldnā€™t let them anywhere near a 10ft radius of my vehicle. This is what happens when you hire straight out of high school and havenā€™t a slightest grasp of responsibility.

Is there a way for me to double like this post? And when I say "like," in mean "relate to, appreciate, identify with, bang my head against the wall in unison with you" Mr. @Arterius2?

I don't "like" the facts you mention; nobody does.
