The OP asked about Jeeps going fast off road and y'all brought in muscle cars (that were all slower than some Jeeps), track cars, and even sports cars that are slower than all JLs to try to redifne fast so that the Jeep doesn't fit. Literally faster than every one of those examples off road which was the point of the thread. But I'm redefining things to make the Jeep fit? When I point out the ridiculousness of bringing track cars into the discussion of fast off road by pointing out all cars are slow compared to fighter jets I'm off topic? You guys can't form a coherent or consistent argument to save your lives so yes I'll keep discussing it. Maybe one of you will get it, maybe you won't. Surfaces and context don't matter but planes are a crazy comparison? Trophy trucks are faster so a jeep can't be driven at 60 in the dirt? 6.1s gtis are fast but 4.5s Jeeps aren't? The 6.5s Bronco raptor is better at going fast...slowly?
Look, it's very simple. The Wrangler is just not a fast vehicle. You have written paragraph upon paragraph outlining specific conditions in which the Wrangler is fast, and you need to do that because IT'S NOT FAST. Look at a Corvette for instance...ask anyone "is a Corvette fast?" and unless they're a clueless moron, the answer will be YES. BECAUSE A CORVETTE IS FAST!! Now i'm sure in response to that you'll say things like "well it's not fast off-road" or "it's not as fast as _______", creating conditions under which it's not fast...which is about the best indicator there is THAT IT'S FAST!! When you have to specify narrow conditions under which a vehicle is fast, it's just not fast. When you have to specify narrow conditions under which a vehicle is not fast, you guessed it, IT'S FAST.

How's that, getting it yet? I suck at teaching, but just about everyone in this thread is trying to explain this to you. It's gotta hit home soon.

It is very simple, as this is a jeep forum and the OP asked about fast off road. I'm not creating the conditions, the OP did. If you asked on a drag racing forum if the corvette was fast, everyone would tell you it's not, especially for the money. If you asked on a Jeep forum if the corvette was fast off road, a bunch of morons will tell you it's simply fast no matter the surface (aside from the one you asked about). You'd be a terrible teacher not because of your explanations, but for the fact that a student asked about algebra and you started explaining a biology lesson.

So in response to a post telling you to stop adding conditions, you respond that you DIDN'T add conditions, then go on to IMMEDIATELY ADD CONDITIONS.

Epic.

Depends on the dirt road and how much you enjoy walking out after.
those old ladies late to church tend to drive over the limit here and is embarrassing having an old lady honking and tailgating to get by in her buick park avenue.

The conditions were part of the original post? Adding fast road vehicles is no different than comparing road vehicles to drag vehicles? Trading comprehension is hard. I guarantee it takes less work to make the Jeep fast in the dirt than it does a corvette or a 911. Claiming that the corvette is generally fast with the conditions of paved surfaces, minimal potholes, and not in comparison to anything significantly faster is pointless and those are conditions in and of themselves (and not the ones relevant to the topic).

50-60 down a dirt road can done in a Forester, or 1989 Cavailer, doesnt make it fast.

I lived that. It felt fast. It wasn't, but driving on gravel above 50mph feels fast. Something about driving on something that is akin to walking on marbles.

But I believe the OP and others are not considering some midwestern gravel roads as "Off-road" as they are indeed roads. But blasting through deserts at 50-60 is not something really possible in this car, or a Forester, but can be done in a Wrangler or Gladiator while still maintaining stock geometry of the suspension links.

Hey, no time like the present. I remember reading about the Baja in “Dirt Wheels” when I was 12 and thinking that would be a blast. My interest started around the same time with a copy of “Peterson’s 4-Wheel and Off-road“. A square-body Blazer on gigantic TSL’s wrapped around 16” polished Mickey Thompsons. Those were the days.
You don' quit, but I don't mind! Those were the days, indeed.

I had a long-time subscription to "Peterson's..." read every review, every article and bought all my aftermarket stuff out of it too. The old square-body blazer on 40" Swampers was only a pipe dream though. I ended up with a lowly, orange '74 CJ5 I built for mudding instead. Little did I know that was the start of a decades-long love affair with Jeeps. I dropped V8s in all but one. They were never "fast" per-se, but were very "quick," and even more capable off road.

Yeah, I love V8 power too. There's something very primal and deeply satisfying about dropping the clutch and throwing 25-ft rooster tails in the air while mudding.

I'm confused, was it fast when I drove my Jeep at 70+ on the South Padre Beach?
Who cares how fast? At least you were on South Padre in your Jeep. That in and of itself puts you in the "fast lane!"

The only beach I like better is the run down Padre Island from Mustang Island State Park to the Mansfield Cut, behind the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge. 60 miles of beautiful beach/water mostly to you and your group (and a few sand rails and wetbacks). That's where I earned flight wings in my first Raptor. Nothing like crossing the equator or into the Arctic circle, but as much fun as I've ever had 4-wheeling anywhere.

Yep- the difference is back in the CJ days you had to build them, today you can buy one that’s more capable on balance than a CJ with everything swapped or upgraded and a good comfortable cruiser too.

You had to build a CJ that was fast, you can just buy a JL that's fast but it's only faster than corvettes before 2000 so it's slow now...or whatever we've "learned" from this thread.
