so slower lap times than a well driven Miata and so on the edge its barely able to keep 3 wheels on the ground? Seems like a real race car to me
who said it was a race car? fugg it is hard posting on here lol...somebody posted there is hate or jeeps going fast...i post a you tube of a jeep going fast and you think I think it is a race car lol...you win lol

If I went on Lamborghini forums and complained that the Huracan should come with a gooseneck trailer hitch I’d be met with the same criticism as people who expect a Wrangler to compete with a rally cross WRX or a Baja trophy truck. Both of which cost well over $250k to build. Four tires and a motor don’t make one vehicle comparable to another.

I wasn't trying to start any arguments lol. I know the Jeep is not a sports car, nor is it something that will win a rally race. The only thing I was saying is that it is possible and I think the people who modify them to be fast are doing a cool thing.

From my POV and what I want for my Jeep is to have a prerunning Jeep that can tackle the offroad trails at quicker-than-crawling speed. I'm not going to flying through like a trophy truck but the spirited driving is still there.

As for the HP, the most HP I've driven for more than a quick zoom down the road is 301HP in a TRD Camry. A stock Jeep definitely won't have the same pick-up-and-go but so far it gives me the same thrills I had plus it can go offroad.

Again I did not want to start any arguments, but was defending the small collection of people who like fast Jeep Wranglers.

Also When I say "my Jeep" I still dont technically "own" a Wrangler, but I've been test driving as many chances as I get so I can make the right decision on which to finally purchase (and hopefully purchase soon).

I haven't really ever felt my Wrangler (or my wife's JT) didn't have enough oomph to do what I needed to get things done on the highway.

There are certain things I would appreciate, like better low-end grunt (I've spent most of the past 15 years behind a diesel engine...) but I've actually formed a robust appreciation for the little 3.6 that could. It likes to wind up and let 'er rip, and most fun is had above 3k RPM.

Not that I don't have things around that I enjoy driving fast... I've got 2 months left on my lease on a Model Y performance that's legitimately fun to haul ass in. Our R1S dual motor isn't a slouch either, less face-melty fun and more "wheeeee" when you get on it. Folks don't tend to recognize the mind bending speed at which some of these EV's can scoot at until you've driven one. With the MYP, on a straightaway back country road with no one around, you floor it and suddenly you're in three time zones at once. You're at the beginning and the end of the road, at the same time, quantum'ly entangled.

I almost always choose to drive my Wrangler however. You never know when the apocalypse will come for us all, and just being honest here, I feel fairly confident that our JL will go where I need it, when and if I need it.

Why is it that a lot of people somewhat throw "hate" or "shade" on people who want a Jeep, but also want to drive fast? I've seen it in this forum, on YouTube, all over the internet.

Well “my 2019 Ferrari LaFerrari“ that I still technically don’t “own” with a 950 horsepower V-12 hybrid goes over 230 miles per hour, as long as we’re making claims and starting debates about things we don’t even own. It’s fun to dream.

I think I've found your kindred spirit. Here's his ride (below).

He's reportedly managed to get 122 mph out of it. That makes perfect sense... to him.

Personally, I'm in favor of Darwin Award contestants being all they can be. There are far too many people in the world.

My only complaint is when Darwin Award competitors are competing in public, where their special worldview is likely to injure others.

Guys who want to race garden tractors and Jeeps should have the courtesy to rent racetracks for their antics. :like:

Yes. Join a club, get into autocross or time trials. Keep it off the public roads used by others. You might be awestruck by your own awesomeness, others are not. Unless you’re in the desert with nobody around, avoid doing things that will give any more ammunition to those actively trying to shut our trails down. End of old man rant.

I've spent a good portion of my life trying to go fast in the desert. My first AMA National Hare & Hound desert racing trophy and my last are 30 years apart. Most of that time was racing the open class on dirt bikes. My best finish was 13th overall (first in class) out of a race with 400+ bikes. So, definitely not the fastest, but not too bad either. As I got older, I changed to UTVs and raced those for several years. My best finish in the UTV class was 2nd overall. I enjoy fast driving offroad but have mellowed with age. Two summers ago, there was a desert race held just 15 miles from where I live. I think the sanctioning body was S.N.O.R.E (Southern Nevada Off Road Enthusiast). They had the full gamut of race vehicles, all the way up to trophy trucks. As was usual for me in those years I was on call at the hospital and couldn't go on race day. The next weekend on Saturday I took our Gladiator Mojave that was stock except for 35" tires and followed the racecourse. I tried to push it as much as I could without beating on the truck too badly. It was a very rough course, and I can't count how many times the front suspension bottomed out badly while doing that. It took me 1 1/2 hours to make it to the first check point. On the next day, Sunday, I took our Can Am Maverick X3 XRC out to run the same course. The Can Am was also stock. I pushed it as much as I could in that machine. It took me 20 minutes to get to the first check point. Some of the spots that required me to slow to 15 to 20 mph in the Mojave just to not wreck it, could be taken at wide open throttle without even lifting off the pedal when in the Can Am.

Speed is so relative and is dependent on what a person has to compare speed to.

With my AEV dualsport 2.5 mine handles great at speeds into the 90's..never felt sketchy.
Yep- and with stock suspension, I was in the 90’s before I noticed a couple days ago, still straight and true. But I have sometimes noticed “some”wander in the mid 80’s, perhaps the road, but never close to “sketchy”.

Show me a “mildly modified” jeep going fast off-road.
My mojave hit the speed limiterat 100mph in the desert shed it was bone stock. The OPs definition of 50-60mph is just normal dirt road speed in the desert and every Jeep is capable of that stock. Sure the shocks on every wrangler will fade due to heat fairly quickly on washboards, but that's really the only upgrade you need. The 2drs wheelbase will get sketchy much quicker, but our JLUR is not built for going fast but does just fine out there at 60-70mph. The non-resi 2.0 long travel foxes get warm but don't usually fade from it. People assume you need a trophy truck to run desert speeds, which is only true if you get into the big whoops and jumps. Jeepspeed events have existed for decades, send it.

As someone who owns a stock jeep and doesn't really offroad it (SACRILEGE!!!!)... but I think I'm familiar enough? I don't know if people are really getting angry about it or just explaining why they think it's a bad idea and you're misreading their tone (it's hard to get in text).......

When BMW made a new Mini, there was a debate on whether to make a new Mini that was true to the spirit of being a Mini, or true to the historical appearance of being a Mini. I think Jeep Wranglers have the same problem, and their product team asks the same question every time they make a new generation of Wrangler: What is a Wrangler supposed to be?

So far they've identified that it has removable doors, a fold down windshield, a removable roof, an aesthetic similar to jeeps of past years, a body-on-frame build, and a solid front axle. They also appear to be interested in keeping the manual transmission and manual differential as long as it makes sense to do so.

In reality, a "spirit of the jeep" would probably be a Can Am Maverick or something along those lines lol. Except somehow street legal?

I'm not going to say it's not possible... because I'm almost positive there are baja jeep builds out there, since there's COUNTLESS suspension and body mods to achieve almost anything you could possibly want to do. You could buy a 392 and install a fully independent suspension on it, and tune it for high speed driving.... it'd cost as much as an AMG G-Wagon I'm SURE.

I suspect what you're really hearing is "that's a waste of time and money" not "you're an idiot for even thinking that". I mentioned the AMG G-Wagon, but I think Ford made the Bronco with your desired use case in mind, too.

Follow whatever your heart tells you, just keep in mind the budget :)

Like i mentioned before, a Mojave and a JLU are significantly different when it comes to suspension design and set up. A JLU without extensive mods won’t match a stock Mojave in the desert. And dirt roads don’t count as off-road.
