Pointers, especially about vehicle registration and inspection in Texas. Tracking El Paso is a smog county, not worried about the JLU or JT but the TJ does occasionally throw a misfire code (typical for the 2000 plus…)
Once a year you go to a private inspection station for the smog and safety inspection, then you get your license plate sticker that goes on the windshield. If you have occasional codes in the computer then you clear them, drive long enough for all of the sensors to be read and set, then go to the inspection station. Inspection and registration are not very expensive. In 2 years the yearly inspection will stop. This is the procedure in my county, I think if you live in some counties the smog part of the inspection is not required.

The emissions test only applies to vehicles less than 25 years old. My son's 97 TJ only needs the yearly safety inspection at $7.50. As previously mentioned the safety inspection goes away in 2 years but emissions will still be tested and required for registration. Welcome to TX and White Sands, NM is worth the drive to sled on the dunes there.

NM is where you will find trails. Las Cruces has some good trails close to you. Bliss kinda sucks, but the new PX complex is kinda nice. For a little road trip you can drive over to the Guadalupe Mountains and see the highest point in Texas.

Darn, 2 years away from worrying about emissions on the TJ.

White Sands is pretty cool. Always made sure to take the new guys there during our trips.

Yea been exploring OnX looks like some nice trails over by Las Cruces.

Bliss isn’t terrible, it isn’t great. It will definitely be a change going back to a real military installation after Atterbury. At least it has everything the family will need on post for when I inevitably deploy.

I was a few hours east in Van Horn for the TXNG a couple of years ago. Would take monthly trips to Bliss. I liked going north towards Carlsbad up into the Lincoln National Forest. Check it out.

Well, long overdue, but finally getting around to a thread to gather details for the move to El Paso (Ft Bliss). Move courtesy of the greatest fight force on Earth.

Looking at OnX there seems to be some trails in the area, but point me in the more specific direction. Anywhere I can hit on a long weekend is a plus. I have been to the area many many times over the past three years.

Move will start with driving the TJ from Indy to El Paso next month. Would love to meet up and talk Jeeps on the 3 day trek.

Most states have a windshield replacement option with your insurance, not in Texas. Only odd thing I found while living there last year for a year. Oh, be very careful where you park it, it can be in Cartel leaders parking lot inside 10 minutes.
