Well I did the big stupid yesterday and had my Battery Tender hooked up to the Jeep all night and got in it early in the morning and drove off, without unplugging...... I first heard a slight clunk, but me of course didn't think anything of it, thought it may have been a small branch under my tire. When I got back home, I noticed the extension cord attached to my outside plug, but no battery tender. Looked all over the road and did not find it. Had to order another one. Big dummy......
Probably not worth the cost:

Whatever maintainer you choose to go with just ensure it’s sized correctly for the batteries you are charging, just because it says it will maintain does not mean it will maintain it correctly due to the size of the batteries, this is where being frugal is not a good thing.

Probably not worth the cost:

What I did was drive off and my wiring that I had wired from the battery to the connector to the Tender just separated at the connecting point, so I must have drug the Tender into the street early and came back in the afternoon and it was gone, someone probably picked it up.

This is a cool idea, though not what I need.

I have an extension so the tender sits on the windshield in front of driver seat when attached. The power cable to the wall outlet I place through the driver door handle. This ensures no matter how brain dead I am it is not forgotten.

Even those 5:30am departures for RCORP occur without forgetting to disconnect with this setup in place.

With the maintainer / tender hooked up.... and the hood down, it is real easy to forget that the maintainer / tender is hooked up. You will inadvertently, drive off with it hooked up.

The cable will just pull loose / disconnect but you do risk / are at risk of damaging the cable...

So, consider doing as I do... Hang one of these near the steering wheel ... in plain view whenever you attach the tender/maintainer cable... It will become second nature to do this ... to place the tag and will save you from an oh chitt, moment.

I guess I didn’t take your advise. I will next time..... thanks for bringing this up again.

I am going on a trip without the JL. Just wanted to get opinions if I should leave it alone, disconnect the batt or put a tender on it. I will be gone 3 -4 weeks. Its the 3.6l ess jlus if that matters.
3-4 weeks should be fine without a tender and good batteries. I did read the whole thread and there is some misinformation about tenders, or at least the ones I have. A tender will keep a battery topped off if the battery is good. I've left vehicles setting well over a month with no battery problems. Maybe not the wisest thing to do since battery life is determined buy lower voltage causing sulfation. Fully charged batteries have less chance of sulfation.

I run several tenders at a time for different vehicles. I have one on my boat with dual batteries. Works fantastic. I have one on my Kubota zero turn lawn tractor. I have one on my Yamaha 660 4-wheeler. I have on on my jet ski. I Had one on the wife's car before i recently traded it. I have a tender on my New Holland farm Tractor. I have two harleys, they are on tenders. I run a tender on my electric golf cart. If I ever see the need, I'll install one on the Jeep.
The tenders I use for 12V batteries are these:
Jeep Wrangler JL Tender or Batt disconnect 51NzSos9hTL._AC_SL1000_

75A is the output. . I use them on motorcycles, lawn mowers, tractors, ATV's, Cars, and boats.
They maintain, charge and go into float. The maintainer I use on my golf cart is different as it's 48 volt and much larger.

These are not jump chargers. A weak battery may need a few day before it reached full charge. But, If you have a hot battery, this maintainer will keep it hot and ready for use months down the road.

I'd hook up a smart battery charger/conditioner.

I use a NOCO smart charger/maintainer. I had locking hood latches and it was a pain to unlock and lock all the time for a pigtail attached to the battery. A few forum members had really creative ways to install charging ports outside of the engine compartment. Some even mounted the port in the bumper. All great solutions. I got lazy and used the 12V accessory plug in the trunk. You can configure it to be hot all the time. I hung the charging cord from the ceiling with a bright yellow flag to remind me to disconnect it before driving off. I also left a printed sign on the seat to remind me if I was not using the JL for a while. Never had a problem.

Back when I had a 1-ton dually. It got to the point that I hardly ever drove it. Where I had to park it, there were no electrical outlets close by.
I used a solar panel charger with a regulator to keep the batteries charged. "Two batteries in the diesel truck".
I used the 12V accessory plug "Cigarette lighter plug" that was hot all of the time to hook the solar panel to.
I did this for a couple years with no problems then finally sold the truck.

It's 0.75A, actually.

If a vehicle can't start after sitting for 2-3 weeks, you have problems.

If you have bypassed the AUX battery with a jumper, and disconnected it from the Negative main batt terminal, how would you hook up a tender to the main battery? Have the tow package if that matters
