I have that same issue with the Tazer plugged in ie random days when my 2023 fails to start.
Did you see my fix for it? I downloaded the Firmware 11.4.5, because the 11.4.6 seems to be the issue. I listed the steps I took to fix it. I hope this helps you.

Thanks Wendy...actually, mine isn't a new software download, it's not been upgraded for probably 18 months. But when I remove the device, the issue goes away. It's a bit of a problematic device IMHO.

Bill, THANK YOU!!! I went back to the previous firmware, 11.4.5 and EVERYTHING IS PERFECT!! No codes of any kind! You are a LIFESAVER!
Wow, great to hear, glad that worked out for you! I also have the Tazer JL Mini so I will not update unless I have a problem with something.

OP for future reference it sounds like you were not reading battery voltage correctly. Most likely you were looking at the off road pages which is your charging current from the alternator when the engine is on. With engine off but run mode it may be accurate but I have not tested it. The best way to measure with a multimeter or take it for a battery test at local parts store.

I was reading the battery indicator on my dashboard. Whatever that was reading just kept going down as I drove. It normally stays between 14.4-14.7.

Its a smart alternator and changes the voltage to the battery depending on various conditions. A normal range is 12.x to 14.x but should still check the battery independently.

I understand how to check a battery. What I was attempting to describe was that after installing the Tazer, it had multiple codes that wouldn’t clear. With the codes present, I went for a drive and the battery indicator located in the vehicle dash showed that it was going down quickly. Within 10 minutes it went from 14.6 to 12. After changing the firmware version to the previous update, the codes disappeared and the dashboard battery indicator stayed at 14.7 during a 30 min. drive. I was trying to get information from other Tazer users to see if anyone had the same issues.

I am posting as this thread has me curious now. My radio, after every says 5-6 starts would not power up at all. The only way to fix it was to pull fuse 97 and plug it back in. Sometimes the radio would reset to "base" and take another restart to come back to normal or it would be back to "normal" right away. It got so bad, I ran a switch to the inside of the cab so I could reset Fuse 97 from the driver seat.

I ran codes and I am getting a bunch of those same U-codes too. So
I ordered a new Canbuss module for behind the glove box. I have it, but have not had time to go work on the Jeep yet.

Same time the radio started acting up, I would get messages that the driver front blinker was out, or the passenger, or both. And the blinker would hyper flash. I did change out the fender flare blinkers recently and thought maybe it was related. The blinker out message would come and go willy nilly.

So a couple weekends ago, I followed a youtuber who said to use the tazer, switch fender blinkers to halogen, do a couple full reboot cycles, then switch them back to LED and repeat the reboot cycles again. Since then the blinkers have been working fine. I also updated the Tazer software the same day.

I had not found anything anywhere hinting that it could be the tazer, but I did pull it out after the reboots. Didn't unmarry it, just pulled it out of Jeep (I didn't want to lose my tire size changes). Since I have done that, the radio has turned on with every key start. So maybe once I get the time I need to put the tazer back in. Maybe it just needed a reboot cycle after last SW update?

But for now I want to replace the Canbuss module and see if I have cleared all OBD codes before putting it back in.

So this thread saying it could be a Tazer update has my interest piqued. It would be good to know its not my Jeep, but something that can actually be updated.

Thanks for sharing the info about this Tazer update!

On another note, I'd like to clarify the battery voltage level.

12V Lead-acid batteries are at 100% state of charge around 13V. If a voltmeter reads above that, it means it's being charged.

As someone else said, charging in the JL and other modern vehicles is regulated by various computer modules, not even by the alternator itself. There is a shunt on a battery terminal that senses voltage and current in and out of the battery, and a computer module uses that to determine battery state of charge. Then, depending on other factors, the computers will decide when to energize the coil in the alternator to charge the battery, and at what current-voltage level. This is done supposedly to increase fuel economy and prolong battery life.

So, in normal operation, one will often see the dash voltage guage increase or decrease. If you see a reading of 13-14V, it means the battery is full and a float charge is being applied. It doesn't really matter what thenths of a volt you see. Also, if you see a reading of 12.8, that also is not something to be concerned about. It may be undergoing bulk charging to bring it up to voltage, or it may be full or nearly so, and the computer has decided to not charge it at that moment.

If you see the voltage remaining under 12.8 for a long time, that's something to watch and figure out.

Before you change the Canbuss, try this:
1. Unmarry if you haven't
2. Full Reboot
3. Pull the negative terminal on your battery for a minute
4. 2 sleep cycles
5. Remove the Tazer and plug the security gateway back in.
At that point, check and see if you are still getting those codes. Mine cleared after doing this!
Then you could download the 11.4.5 firmware version…unless you have a manual transmission(as the 11.4.6 version has fixes for manual transmission). Then re-Marry the Tazer and REBOOT, then do 2 Complete Sleep Cycles.
I hope this works for you!

Thank you for explaining that. I was really confused! Great information, and again thank you for sharing!!

I’ve had my Tazer for 5 years, and have had that happen only twice.

This is why I use JSCAN. Set it, pull it and forget it. Tazer gremlins are a thing.
