Hah, there is barely any life in the desert for a reason, stay away.
The same could be said for intelligent life in PA, at least the year I lived there back in 02-03... The desert scenery and wheeling make it well worth the trip every time we go, but we only camp between late fall and early spring. I'll take 40⁰ winter mornings over -40⁰ any day and especially when I'm sleeping in a tent.

I'll advocate for soft tops in the desert. First, middle of the day is hot, I get that, but morning, evening, and nighttime driving with the top back can be great!

I had a hard top, and you have to have the head liners. If you don't, the hard top just radiates heat downward onto your head. It's super hot to the touch. The soft top does not capture and radiate that heat downward. Maybe the AC can't get it as cold with a soft top due to less insulation, but you do cool down FASTER as a result.

Hard top with headliners for sure, but cooling down faster just proves the point that the soft top transfers heat vs insulating it. Typically if we are wheeling in the desert in the summer time we get an early start so the Jeep is nice and cool before it gets hot. I prefer wheeling in moab when it's mid-late summer as the 100⁰ plus temps keep the crowds, side by sides, and mountain bikers out of the way. We ran poison spider all the way through gold bar in August a couple years ago and saw a total of 10 other rigs and we passed all of them on poison spider early in the day.

Hmmm, I don't like people, so I like the idea of going to Moab when it's hot. Living in the desert, I'm pretty used to the heat, admittedly I'll run the top off at 100 degrees as long as I have the mesh top protecting me from the sun. It's hit high 90s a few times already this year, I hear people complaining about the heat.... ya, give it a month.

Unfortunately running a project in casa grande right now (normally work in the sf bay area where it's rarely over 80⁰). I'm not looking forward to working outside at this power plant when the temps get well above 100⁰. We just bought property for retirement in northern AZ, but specifically chose ~5000 ft elevation to avoid most of the snow and triple digit heat all together.

If you're in casa grande with the jeep, make sure to get over to Florence for some wheeling in Box Canyon, some great trails over there!

Might have to find out how the crew cab f150 does (it's a rental).

I think it could maybe do ok down the main Box Canyon stretch. Through the canyon is pretty scenic.

The title to this thread really needs to be changed. To say I am disappointed after opening it would truly be an understatement.

I should add that the close proximity to the other thread in the list entitled “The Gift That Keeps on Giving” did nothing to alert me about the actual content of this thread.
