Tailgate reinforment needed?

Hi,

I ordered Black Rhino Sentinel wheels (link below) for my JL Rubicon. The new wheels weigh approximately 35lbs each. Does anyone know if I can mount these on my tailgate without a tailgate reinforcement? I'm not sure what the stock wheels weigh.

I understand that with the negative offset these wheels will stick out further out than stock, so I purchased the Quadratec bump stock to account for the increased distance the new spare will stick out on the tailgate but not sure if the weight of the wheel will force me to also reinforce the tailgate.

Thoughts welcome.

The tailgate is rated to withstand 85 lbs.

How heavy are the tires you will be mounting?

For reference: the OE wheels weigh between 25 and 27 lbs; the stock 32-inch tires weigh between 40 and 45 lbs.

I am planning on keeping the stock tires. So the 32 BFG KO2. Based on your reply, it looks like I should be okay without it as the 35lb wheel + 45lb stock tire = 80lbs.

I have 17x9 aftermarket pro comp rims and 33 inch Falken tires. Total weight is 27lbs for the rim + 50 lbs for the tire = 77 lbs total. Added extended spare tire bump stops from Quadratec and no issues. Tailgate and spare tire bracket are good. If I were to go to 35” tires, I would consider reinforcing, though.
