My LUGNUTS are swollen!

Not having heard about this until today, I did some research, and it seems to be a common problem, JEEP.

I went to get my tires rotated and balanced and was told that I had this issue. Not having heard about it before, I contact the dealer, O'Rielly's and Walmart (3 distinctly different businesses) and received the same answer: This is a problem with the stock CHEAP lugnuts on my 2021. I was also told other vehicles have had similar issues.

Not uncommon. This is why they make sockets that are in half mm increments. I have had cars that you need three different socket sizes to get off just one wheel. It's not just jeep but others too. Ford and Chevy are just as bad. This is nothing new, even an old Ford Escort from the early 80's had this problem. Just so you know, a Ford Edge is the worst. I don't know what Ford did but they mastered the swolen lug nut on those. Kudos to them.

When I put other wheels on my Jeep. I bought all brand new regular old lug nuts from one of the online retailers. My OEM ones are in a box somewhere in the garage.

I got the "swollen lugnuts" bs from a tech at the dealership last year. Took my '17 renegade in for an oil change and tire rotation. They claimed they couldn't do the rotation because of the "swollen lugnuts." Took it to Discount Tire, where I've bought tires for the past 30 years and they had it done in about 15 minutes. ?

I had this happen on mine, as well. My understanding is that it's exacerbated by using an impact driver on them.

Either way, it's not a big deal - a 22.5mm socket was $20 on Amazon and works great.

It can be a challenge but at the end of the day, you end up taking the real problem ones and replace them. Thus charge the customer. Also, they make ripper sockets (which is good for people that lose their wheel lock socket (quite common).
