Can someone tell me if the wheels that come on the XR have the standard chrome lugnuts?

They aren't chrome. They have a stainless skin over a plain lug nut. That skin will handle being removed and replaced about a half dozen times before it deforms. It could happen after just one time if some guy gets crazy with an impact. Once that skin deforms and starts to spin, getting it off is hell. I tried to help someone with a flat one day and her jeep had to be towed as 90% of them were ruined. Another Jeeper stopped and had a bunch of tools, he couldn't help either. It would have taken a chisel to remove the stainless part to get to the lug nut underneath.

Jeeps come with a steel nut that has a stainless cap pressed onto them. If you live in an area with lots of corrosion, you'll get about 5-6 years out of them before they start to "swell". There's a reason why Snap On makes a 21.5mm and 22.5mm socket. Ford uses the same thing and it's a challenge to get some off. There are aftermarket which are chrome and no cap. We use them as replacement for the bad lugnuts.

2025 Willys here, stock lugnuts look great but that thin stainless steel covering takes a dump pretty quick! Couple times at tire shop and one wheeling . They got rubbed on some Rubicon rocks, went to remove them for lift installation and spent way too much time cutting the thin shells off, just to be able to remove my wheels. They were so distorted, could not even hammer the impact socket on to remove the wheels. Once removed I had to use 1/4" drive long extension and pound them out of the socket.

Thought about cutting the thin stainless cover off all of them, but kinda tedious and then might not fit standard size socket?

Spring for quality like McGard. But if you intend to get different wheels beware, the acorns didn’t work (socket rubbed the wheels), splines needed. High dollar McGard to the GC, with leftovers but not a complete loss…. pssst, get black they look better 😊
