Recently been really thinking about adding that missing bass sound from the stock radio. I currently have a 2021 JLU sport with the 7” head unit. Stock speakers etc. I’ve been looking at my options. I have a soft top that I don’t leave down or off very frequently. Maybe a drive or 2 on the weekends and then back up it goes.
I’d like to conserve cargo space as it’s already limited. I’ve been looking into the boxes that go over the wheel wells in the back but concerned about how secure they’ll be. It is a soft top after all. I’ve looked at under seat subs but haven’t seen the best reviews. If they were to go under the seat it would have to be driver and or passenger, I need to be able to put the rear seats down if needed. Any tips or pics or advice from others in the same situation would be helpful.
Im not worried about price just yet, still in the planning stages of it all. And I’m only looking to install a sub/amp as it’s a lease and don’t want to have to wire up new speakers and take em out again.
Pic for attention haha

The JL stealthbox bolts through the fender so stealing it is difficult at best, and nearly impossible without knowing what hardware you'll need beforehand. I installed it in a sky one touch so I don't know how it sounds with a soft top. There are other options that are more secure that might take up other room as well as a full custom option that could be the best option.

Yea I like how the stealthbox is secured but not for 950 a piece. I feel like I’m overthinking it at this point. I just haven’t seen videos of people putting subs in soft tops. Or at least haven’t found any yet. One guy bolted it down to the floor of the cargo space just out of the way of the trunk lid but that was the extent of it.

MB Quart just released a tailgate sub for JL’s It comes with and amp but you would need a LOC to run it.

I just checked it out, says it’s 53lbs of extra weight added to the tailgate. That thing can’t possibly weigh 53 lbs.

Agreed. Check with MB Quart support on that.

I’ve hard mounted many enclosures over the years for various reasons, If you can hang with a standard hatchback style box it might be your best bet. Cheap box and $5 worth of bolts will make it immovable!!

It’s an idea. But that comes with losing space in the cargo area which I desperately need lol. I know I’m being quite particular but if I’m doing this I want it done right. I’m actually gonna be going to ocean city Jeep week next weekend to see some options too ?

One option, though pricey, maybe an enclosure mounted to the cage. Ideally you would make the enclosure to fill the space efficiently but it comes down to the builder/installer.

Had same stock 7” audio setup as you. Now have a Kicker Hideaway HS10 powered sub under the passenger seat, and upgraded kicker brand dash and soundbar speakers. Like night and day difference for half the cost of other options. Even if you just do the sub, you will be impressed with the difference. ?

@SteveT

Could always go with the ever popular DS-18 setup.

I'm not really knowledgeable on audio systems. So I couldn't really tell you what on there is a subwoofer, but I know people who have them seem to enjoy the sounds they produce..

Don't forget your bar to hook them in.

Personally, I'll just be going for individual speaker upgrades in the sound bar and the dash. But I also really don't care too much for super loud bass. A bit of bass enough for me. ?
