I'll be installing that kit in the not-too-distant-future so I think I'll have better bolts on hand based on your experiences. Thanks for sharing.
One man's pain should be another man's gain....that should be the motto for this forum..........

I'll let you know what I find at the store. If you live around the Dallas area, I'd strongly suggest you look at Elliott's Hardware in Plano. It is a wonderland of obscure nuts and bolts......

and on the question of driving them. They are a snug fit, but I was using a foot long torque wrench set to 35 ft/lbs and they weren't really hard to tighten until the last little part.

At least you have an option. I messed up a connector and called the dealership. He looked and couldn’t find a part number. Called Mopar. They researched and said call the dealership.

So basically I can tell them the official name of the part, I can show them where to find it, in a kit they make- but somehow it’s made out of wishes and angel tears and doesn’t exist in a non-dreamlike state.

Detail details. What kind of a connector?

I put my tailgate reinforcement kit I got yesterday on tonight. I had the exact same thing happen with one of those same bolts, although I did get it tight enough so didn't have to replace it.

Had lots of fun dealing with torx bolts...try loosening the other three and then installing the one giving you the issues, then torque the others.

Ace Hardware has a very nice selection of bolts, sold individually, can even get them chrome plated if that's your thing

No, there’s no practical reason that the fasteners need to have Torx heads. An appropriately sized and threaded hex head fastener will work perfectly and avoid the stripping problems entirely.

I’m guessing the Torx thing is simply for continuity with other hardware (doors) and a limited amount of security as a casual thief is less likely to have the correct Torx tools on hand vs regular hex wrenches or sockets.

I am having a hard time finding a hex head (black) bolt that is M10 threads and approximately 55mm long (from under the bolt head). I wore myself out today looking for replacements. If anyone can find a source for a bolt like this in Grade 8, let me know I want to buy at least four of them to replace what I have.

Torquing a bolt with an allen or torx head is a big mistake. Be careful out there!

I just ordered bolts from The Bolt Depot, it was the only place that would let me order bolts individually instead of by the 100 count or by the semi-tractor trailer load....LOL

These are not black oxide, so I will likely give them a shot of paint or Plasti Dip them.

They are M10 x 1.5 and 50 or 55mm long. All thread.

Question, are all of you stripping the same hole? Or is it always the just the last one and never the same hole. Maybe it is a length issue and FCA should look at increasing the strength of the material and downsizing the length. One last thing maybe they should be torqued in a cross pattern like when you do a tire because the mount is being twisted out of proper flex (which I seriously doubt but you never know I have seen stupider things).

I installed all four bolts hand tight with a 3/8 socket wrench and my torx socket. Then I started at the top right, then bottom left, then top left, and bottom right. It was the bolt on the bottom right and only when using the torque wrench set to 35 ft/lbs as instructed.

I think Mopar should ditch the stupid torx bolts and move to a hex head, anytime a torque setting is needed, the hex head little chance of being rounded off versus the torx head.
