Stoney Pass

I know a lot of people run the normal loop (Engineer Pass, Cinnamon Pass, etc.) in southern Colorado during the summer months, but how about Stoney Pass? It's in the same area and we don't hear too much about it. I remember sitting on the wheel wells of my dad's '71 Bronco, holding onto the rollbar getting tossed about on that trail. I know that the scenery is incredible and the headwaters of the Rio Grande River are on that trail also. I can't wait to get back up there and see how it is now. Anyone been over that trail in the recent years?

I ran half of it in September for the first time and I enjoyed it. I’ll definitely hit it again this year and spend more time on it. I didn’t take many pictures while there but this one was on the way back from the summit.

Thanks for the post and response. We'll be in Lake City in July and August. We've been there several times and have done everything in the area several times. This looks like some interesting territory to explore. We'll have the Rubicon and our Polaris Trails and Rocks.

In case you haven’t done this one (it doesn’t seem very popular) Clear Lake is a scenic trail that leads up to a lake surrounded by mountains. It’s a quick in and out that can be hit on your way to/from Silverton.
