So today at work I had a backpack stolen. Wallet and everything including key to Jeep.

So who has lost or had a key stolen and what did you do to keep a slimy thief from getting into your Jeep?

Call the cops and write a report?

Nothing you can do when someone literally has a key to your car. At least they won’t break a window ?.

Sorry that happened.

Will cost a few hundred $, but you can order/buy 2 new factory fobs from the dealer and have them programmed to your JL.

Programming can be done so as the stolen fob and your remaining fob will not work in regard to your JL.

You will need two new fobs because supposedly you cannot reprogram a programmed factory fob.

You dealership Service Dept. can let you know what to buy.., etc..

So my wife called and the local dealership said to call a locksmith.
Second one said bring the spare and they could reprogram that and buy a new one. Said they think the key in limbo would be deactivated.

It’s a shame these proximity keys don’t have trackers in them.

Since they have my address and the key with key to the house its fairly important I get a few things handled. Both dealerships close didn't give me the confidence they knew what to do. Jeep and car theft not a thing around here.

I spoke to a locksmith today. He can reprogram the Vehicle and 2 new keys which I figured the dealer should have been able to complete. I have not set that appointment up just yet.
I asked about the physical door lock at both front door and tailgate.
I was told that is a bit of a challenge as the actual lock needs to removed from the door and tailgate. That could require a body shop. Then since Im a bit OCD I asked about the glove box and center console to which I figured I would receive the odd look. He said he had never been asked about that. To which I was not surprised.
Has anyone ever looked into something like this?

Tangential:

Some years ago, I was the victim of identity theft. That was an unpleasantness all its own. One of the things I did in response was to install a doorbell video camera (Ring, in my case, but choices abound) in the event that the wrong chicken came home to roost...which it never did, thankfully. Just a thought.

By the by, the camera has been great at alerting me to the occasional neighborhood cat walking across the porch at 0200. So I've got that going for me, which is nice.

I have a few of those cameras. It is parked inside the garage at nights as well. More of a piece of mind thing. Now a broken widow and some highly motivated criminals can do wonders. Im just wanting to clear my mind and put things back with all of the items matching.

To add I went to the store that the credit cards were used at. Gave them card numbers and amounts charged. Waiting for the video of the purchases. Hopefully tomorrow
It will not return my stuff but I intend on following through with anything I can do to help find the criminal.

In no particular order:

-Change all of the external locks on the house
-Consider security window film
-Change your habits, like driving routes and such. Become unpredictable.
-Carry your wallet on your person (better yet, ditch the backpack or anything like it, unless there's a compelling need to carry one, like personal medical supplies)
-
Document every conversation, phone call, etc. you have with relevant parties: law enforcement, banks, stores, etc. Having notes to refer to can be invaluable.

You may be SOL with console and glove box lock cylinders. They’re usually cheap garbage that can’t be disassembled (re-assembled actually. Everything can be disassembled) for re-keying.
