Soooo I have a bit of an issue… had the top and doors off the other day when a HUGE storm came through and filled the jeep. Got all the water wet vaced out and now it smells like old dirty shoes! What are thoughts on getting the stink out!

Deep-cleaning the carpet, after first removing it from the vehicle, would likely be effective. There's also the matter of the cloth seats possibly requiring the same attention.

The best thing would be to fully replace the interior carpet with a new set, or install a vinyl flooring kit in its place.

From experience, lingering smells from water intrusion can be hard to eliminate.

You need a deep, deep clean/detailing and even that might not do the trick. You can also follow-up on the detailing with Pooof

If I forgot to monitor the weather, I'd seal up the jeep, put dehumidifier in back, route drain out a drain hole, and check in 72 hours or when the drain stopped dripping.

If that were my Jeep, I would rip out all of that carpet and Heruliner it.

Best of luck.

I never got inches of rain in my Jeep but I've def been rained on... doors windows and top off. Luckily here in Florida it rains and then it's super sunny the next day. I take all her vinyl floor mats out to exposed the carpet to the sun and I spray some dollar tree odor eater type stuff to freshen her up. She pretty much stays top and doorless if weather permits so I haven't had a huge problem with mustiness.

Good luck, I'm sure I'll get there one day... will def think about alternatives to the shnthetic carpeting stuff she came with, but being a 23, she doesn't stink.... yet....

I haven’t used this in a car/truck/jeep but I used it in a library that got flooded and smelled like rotten ass after it dried. Tried to shampoo the carpet but the smell came back a week later. Sprinkled a box of that stuff on the carpet, let it sit for a few minutes and vacuumed it up. About 3 months later and the smell still hasn’t come back

Say fuck it, go Pirate.
Do that, and from then on, you can raid other unsullied Jeeps with impunity.
Truth be told, that’s how most “angry”(victim) Jeeps get the look.
Know the right people, you can get a Letter of Marque to target Broncos, Land Cruisers, Hummers, H2’s, FJ’s and G Wagons with impunity.

Definitely the deep clean. Just used Dead Scent on a new/used one where the dealer had tried to cover up cigarette smoke with air freshener. Dead scent was amazing.

@teacherjeepgirl of you decide to replace, let me know. I’ll soon be pulling the carpet out of my Sahara (just 14k mi on it) and replacing with Armorlite.

You can have it if you want - just pay shipping or let’s coordinate as I will be visiting Boston and northern
CT a couple times over the summer with the family.

Dessicant bags. They make some big bags. Toss a few around the interior and it will pull the moisture and smell out.

If you let it dry without getting the dirty water out of the carpet/interior, you'll need to rinse that stuff out or no amount of Febreeze is gonna help.

Option 1. Hose the interior and wet vacuum it, repeat until your drawing clean water out.
Option 2. Steam cleaner, the ones that steam and vacuum.
Option 3. Steamer and wet vac the water out. You can also add a no residue cleaning product to the steamer reservoir which may help eliminate odor.
Option 4. Pick up a multi quart no residue cleaning product probably from the detailing aisle. Follow the directions, pretty much soak it, let it sit and either stiff brush and wet vac or drill brush and wet vac.

Run an ozone generator once it's dried out is another option too.

The ozone generator is a great idea. You can get one from Amazon that plugs into a 12v power port, damn I'm old enough that it's hard not to call it a cigarette lighter. Another option is to fill up 2, preferably clean, socks with ground coffee and put them under your seats. Good luck.
