Boy has this thread turned into a political quagmire.

The Stellantis issue was going on long before tariffs were brought up but certain media outlets and politicians want to put the blame somewhere else to push their political narrative.

Chicken Little called and wants his story line back.

Remember when they were rooting out fraud and abuse? Now it's ok if it's in the name of political retribution.
Headline: Social Security Administration cancels contracts in Maine.

"Please cancel the contracts. While our improper payments will go up, and fraudsters may compromise identities, no money will go from the public trust to a petulant child,” acting commissioner Leland Dudek wrote, referring to Maine Gov Janet Mills."

No other POTUS brainwashed his supporters into believing that everything negative that is written about him is fake news.
You all own that one.
93% negative coverage from the media from 2016 on in order to destroy him. Why? Because they couldn’t control him.

Credibility of the media is lower now than personal injury lawyers and used car salesmen.

Who”s fault is that? The media owns that one. He never would have been able to convince anyone of anything if the media wasn’t so scummy in how they covered ANYTHING.

Socks at Wal-Mart will be $22.
Hope you don't need a cell phone soon or anything that uses processors, South Korea 26% and Taiwan 32%. Enjoy that inflation everybody!
There hasn't been a domestically manufactured TV since Curtis Mathes. Not sure how many jobs Samsung or LG are taking away from US production. Zero in the last 30 years from my calculations.

Simple. A tax, a tariff, or a regulation, etc. is passed by politicians, and people will find a way to get around it so as not to pay. This has been happening since our founding.

It just happens to be that countries who have been ripping us off for years are currently in the crosshairs instead of the middle class.
It's not worth getting into a discussion with you when your post things like this. Like most MAGAts, you've bought the dear leaders mixed up logic, hook, line and sinker.

The people who are not going to be "getting around it" are the American consumers, who will be facing significantly higher prices due to these tariffs. I know your dear leader "Couldn't care less" but I believe many American consumers do care. His bullshit about the tariffs making Americans buy American made cars is so out of touch with reality. There's no such thing as an "American Made Car", every automobile produced in this country uses parts that go back and forth across our borders, being taxed each time. And I guarantee you the producers of those automobiles will pass that additional cost onto American consumers.

Best,
-Tim

Your are being gas lit by an agenda driven media. The tariffs are a temporary tool to get other countries to drop their existing tariffs on our products, thereby opening up their markets to us. When other countries drop their tariffs, we will drop ours, and the prices for foreign products will stay the same.

A permanent tariff would work as advertised and increase prices, but that is not what is being enacted. Canada and Mexico have already removed a majority of their tariffs before ours went into effect. Other countries are already scrambling to negotiate to get the tariffs removed.
Maybe you forgot, but many months ago tariffs were sold to the American voters as a way of funding f'n everything. Those voters somehow believed that other countries were somehow going to be paying those tariffs for them. The sales pitch was that it was free money for us.

The latest incarnation is that these tariffs are reciprocal and simply match the tariffs that other countries are applying on us. That's also a blatant lie that, for whatever reason, people seem to believe.

Don't believe me? Look at the formula that our Office of the United States Trade Representative published: https://ustr.gov/issue-areas/reciprocal-tariff-calculations

A simplified version of that formula: take the trade deficit for the US in goods with a particular country, divide that by the total goods imports from that country and then divide that number by two.

The formula is based purely on trade deficits and tariffs aren't directly in the formula at all. Those that believe it's a direct tariff-for-tariff match have been misled.

Well I think it is safe to say that IF Stellantis was trying to distract people from their poor leadership by blaming the layoffs on tariffs, this thread proves their strategy was most effective!

Regardless, I think a lot of people would agree that Stellantis has managed the company extremely poorly. Their CEO was fired only 4 months ago. In fact, Stellantis' poor management is the reason I decided to buy a new Wrangler even though I didn't need one; if things continue the way the are with the company, I will have no interest in whatever next-gen "Wrangler" is. I bought a JL because I know I like the JL; I don't think I will say the same about the next Wrangler.

Hold on to your hats, folks. We're in for a rough ride. 🙄

The Stellantis layoffs are just a symptom of a deeper economic problem that's been exacerbated by these loony tariffs.

Exactly. Stellantis paid a guy $65 million to destroy their company and boy did he deliver.

Spot on!! I couldn't agree with you more, on all points. Nice job of pivoting this thread back on topic! 😉
