Not sure what I’m gonna say to the dealership ..They’ll just blame it on me lol ..which technically it is my hand causing it

Haha no that’s my left hand on the top of the right side of the steering wheel ..I do more of the lean to the right with the elbow on the center console lol

That is definitely a defect. Get it replaced under warranty. My truck is 5 years old and the leather still looks new. I have never seen a leather steering wheel act like that. Maybe it’s not leather.

Well, technically it's not a defect as it was not like that when it left the factory. I believe the term is "premature wear." In other words, you would reasonably expect the materials to not wear so fast under normal use (such as holding the steering wheel with your hand).

Ok so I’ve only had this Jeep for a little over a year and the exact spot where I put my hand all the time is wearing out fast ..it’s like the black layer is coming off in flakes ...any ideas what I can do to fix it ?
Well that kinda sucks don't it... Do you use lotion on your hands at all? Do you use some sort of chemicals on your hands on a regular basis or some chemical to clean your hands other than standard soap? Do you grip the steering wheel harder than normal? How many miles is on the Jeep?

If the dealer will not warranty it for premature wear than you will most likely need to buy one and replace it. You could always get a steering wheel cover but that might not be what you're looking for.

A leather steering wheel that is heated will run around $300. One that is leather but not heated will run about $200. Then you just need to move the air bag/buttons from the one you have and install on the new one.

Defects can occur after the factory. Could be a defect in the material that happens over time.

My wife's new Elantra had this issue a couple of years ago. Replaced under warranty no questions asked. Never had an issue again. Wife uses lotion and such--suspected that might be the case, but it never occurred on the replacement steering wheel.
