Steering wheel wearing out

Ok so I’ve only had this Jeep for a little over a year and the exact spot where I put my hand all the time is wearing out fast ..it’s like the black layer is coming off in flakes ...any ideas what I can do to fix it ?

I would take it to the dealer and see if they could replace it under warranty.

I noticed this too on my one year old JL!

Do you happen to be topless of have the freedom panels off a lot?
I am afraid the damage could have been accelerated by the sun/heat/UVs

After one year, mine looks absolutely brand new.

I also wipe it down and treat it with leather/interior conditioner every 2 weeks.

I've noticed mine is getting a little sticky, and I've cleaned it several times with just some water and simple green, it still is vaguely sticky, wonder if it is also wearing out?

303 to protect it from UV when top is down. Ditto for seats. Finished leather doesn’t need conditioner, and 303 is your best bet (after you make the dealer fix under warranty).

I use a steering wheel cover/wrap to avoid this. $20. Amazon. Easy mod.

Its the acid in your sweat some people are more prone to this than others if the dealer does replace it you'll need to wipe it down to keep it in shape I see it all the time in Apple Watch bands and then people claim its a manufacture defect when its not.

My base Sport JL has a plastic steering wheel so no signs of wear yet. Sport S, all Saharas and all Rubicons have leather wrapped steering wheels.
