Hi Everyone,

I recently installed a Metal Cloak steering stabilizer relocation kit, using the stock stabilizer, on the JL.

After the install was finished we noticed the sticker on the stock stabilizer re facing front. (Picture attached.)

The arrow is currently facing to the back.

Does anyone know the logic for this? If it makes a difference I'll correct it.

Thanks,

Jeff

Hi,

People have said it’s something about the gas/oil porting inside of the shock, you should fix it.
That's the direction I headed.

I'm curious about the "base cup" reference on the stabilizer. See attached pic.

What is that referring to? I did a quick Google. Nothing really fit. I don't want to be in doubt.

Hey Again,

The stabilizer is now installed as I believe it is intended for the stock setup.

But... now I am questioning why.

With the Metal Cloak relocation kit that end of the stabilizer at the track bar axle bracket is higher than at the tie rod end. On the stock setup the end with the base cup reference (picture) is the low end. Just wondering about the reference to porting...

Nothing is as easy as it appears.

Take it off, cut it in half, and it will make sense.

Shocks work by oil through an orifice. Oil can’t compress so the orifice slows things down.
Gas compresses so it all goes right through an orifice very easily and you loose the dampening effect.
So it’s important to keep the orifice side down where the oil is.

This is a pic of the way the stabilizer is currently installed. This would match the factory install with the exception of the mount closest to the wheel (now attached to the axle) being at a higher elevation than the attachment point at the tie rod.

Not trying to beat this topic to death, just trying to understand the goal of the correct installation. (If the goal of the install is to have the port on the bottom of the lowest point of the stabilizer, I can remove and reinstall. with the base cup being at the tie rod attachment.)

Thanks for the input.

Leave it as you have it now..

All has to do with ports and drainage....

Regardless of having that relocation kit in the mix.. you want the "bulge" that is found on the end of the stabilizer facing down as it is... Yes, there is a very small bulge on the end of the stabilizer closest to the passenger side wheel.

@Rhinebeck01,

Thanks for the reply.

The only question I still have is whether there would be any benefit to having that bump on the lowest side (at the bullet mount on the track bar), or if that makes any difference at all.

I hear ya..... I understand your question....

No, I can't see where it would make any difference. I would leave as you have it.
