For those of you with a Stage 1 EGR and DEF turned off, what did you do to the existing DEF in the tank? If you drain & replace with distilled water do you run the risk of it freezing? Just curious about the long game when it comes to the DEF being turned off? TIA for any / all insight...

Remove Tank
thx, that's certainly one way to do it but I'm asking because if/when I sell I'd like to switch it back to stock configuration. I'm wondering if, after draining, introducing a solvent like IPA or similar into the DEF tank along with distilled water would prevent from freezing and not have detrimental effects to the internals / seals / sensors etc? Or maybe a glycol product mixed with distilled water BUT would it present problems to sensors etc? Filling to 1/2 full qith distilled water gives room for expansion but will components freeze/crack? Again, just curious if others have encountered this with deep freeze temps?

How about simply putting DEF in it?

I know, right? I'm not so sure DEF's shelf life and stability to not crystalize etc would make it for 2-3 yrs+? I'm prolly overthinking things...

IPAs can be used as a solvent! Now I know why I prefer a good smooth lager or ale.

Yeah I’d be worried about leaving DEF sitting in that tank for that long without it being used. That sounds like a recipe for disaster.
