Seeing that you call your Jeep a car says it all. ;) For those that use their Jeeps as a "car", the SOT is probably the best option for quick and easy open air. For those that use their Jeep for off-roading, soft top or no top is, in my opinion, the best option.
Oh yeah 0 off roading what so ever. Cry when it gets wet from rain. I have no clue what's ideal from an off road standpoint just going by aesthetics and ease of use. The fully removed hard top looks great, I just found myself never taking it fully off being it was cumbersome.

A Jeep with a soft top does look like a low-rent, plebeian “car,” and not an actual Jeep. It screams, “I live in a trailer park, swill Budweiser, and shop at Walmart for my pork rinds and jerky.” If the soft top is a hair style, it looks like a mullet. It‘s a love-mobile for a redneck taking his cousin/girlfriend on a cheap date.

I’m joking, of course; just stirring the crap and trying to trigger you good folks. ?

I believe that begs the comparison of the SOT to the Karen. As in, asking for the manager of the valet after he scratches the 20s on your wanna be G-Wagon.

The new soft tops have an opening in the back panels. Unlike the JK that had the zipper closure. I The premium ST all the way. I like the painted hardtop. It looks nice and very functional if you have a 2 door as nothing really fits in the interior. But taking doors off + panels is a pain. They are both needed IMO. I dont think you can get the dual top with the painted HT though.

I agree with what a lot of people are saying go dual top. I have a harken hoister for my hardtop (can usually be found on these classifieds for a good price) keeps the hardtop up and out of the way during the summer months. In the winter I put all the softtop pieces on a pallet and hoist them up and out of the way. Glad I had the hardtop this winter. My jeep covered in snow, this could have been bad news with my softop on.

I think the choice falls on whether you are willing to put in the effort to open and close the soft top every time you want to open it up. The SOT is significantly easier to work with. As well, I am not sure of your preferred climate, but an open top in 80s and sunny is rather unbearable for me, so the ability to close the top at the press of a button could be desireable.

All that said, my Jeep is meant to be an all manual experience: MT, soft top, half doors during the summer. I wouldn’t trade it for the world!
Original poster said they now live in south central Texas. That translates to a LOW of 85 and HIGH of 105 for the last several weeks. If it was 80 year round, I would vote NO top. But high noon at 105 degrees with 100% humidity and no cloud cover, please give me a top and AC.

Nice Jeep but I gotta admit you got me stumped— looks like a CJ8, but the top ? The right hand drive Overlander (Australia, others) & very rare Alaska postal had a full length top with barn doors and I doubt the lid came off and I don’t think the postal had side windows ( never seen one ) but Nope, outa guesses. Please remedy my ignorance before I scratch my head raw. ? ?

I did the SOT in the '23 Willys because it was a $4k option as part of the "Sun & Sound" package that included the upgraded 8.4" display, the alpine sound system w/sub, the rear seat power/usb, and the upgraded alternator. I love being able to retract the huge sunroof (essentially) in a few seconds. With the windows down and the top back it is pretty open-aired. I haven't even taken off the freedom panels yet. Agreed this is not pure Jeep experience of a removed soft-top. Most of the soft-top Jeeps I see around here just have the front flap back and it looks like it would rip the rest of the top off at 60+ mph. Lastly, in South Carolina, it is HOT in the summer. The A/C has been able to keep up with the SOT, but I see a hot heads headliner in my future. I was excited when I first tried/saw the SOT, and I personally am happy with it.
I cannot stress this enough …. You 100% need the Hot Heads Skyliner in your life!!! It’s a game changer as it pertains to interior heat levels not to mention the “finished” look that it gives your interior.

To me, the SOT just isn’t worth it. Additionally, you’re adding mechanical complexity. Just get a soft top or the dual roof group.

Yes, but if that’s OP’s preference, more power to em! I know someone who is still cold at 90 and sticky, so ?‍♂

If that’s my temp zone, I would 100% go with a soft top, I’d never put it back on.
