I have the same problem with my top. It's at the dealer now getting It's 3rd new top, 4 if you count the one it came with! All have been covered under warranty. I hope they figure it out this time as I'll be out of warranty after I get it back!
You will never be happy.

I am having the SAME exact issue. 2018. Happened in one year. Dealers claimed that they had never heard of the issue. I will be showing them this thread.

Jeep Wrangler JL Soft top help! So many issues. B18A07CF-7D4D-45A6-9E2E-26D09B25573D

Update: Jeep level 2 Nicole says, they stand by the dealership. She gave me a 1 800 to call with the NCDS or something. In the mean while I went to another dealership with a mopar store that knew about JL since Buford Jeep in GA says they knew nothing and can only read the manual and the safety straps were probably not used.

The second dealership was very helpful and knowledgeable. They can not believe the condition. They stood by me and tested it with and without safety straps. They have said, it is clearly a problem with either the bars alignment or the soft top was defective shape. They said even without it causing holes the inseam is apprantly ripping because of the shape goes into with the bars. They are helping me get another order and will explain to chrysler it was nothing with straps and even with straps the top still has movement and problem will still exist.

My chances are NOT good and it will be an up hill battle since the first order for the top was already denied. They took pictures and will send a statement why the top should be covered.

My next step will have to be the 1800 and file a claim. Some government agency. I'm hoping Jeep will do the right thing now since a knowledgeable dealership actully looked at it rather then a tech that only reads the manual.

I'll keep posting updates.

Have a ā€˜21 JLUR. Same thing happening on mine. Got it June 2021. I use the sinrider position often but only put it back all the way a few times. Then I installed a Fishbone shelf in the back and it canā€™t be put all the way back with it installed, so it hasnā€™t been in about 4 months. Sounds like it can be replaced under warranty but still keeps happening.
First two pictures are front driver, side, last one is passenger side in front.

Other than OP, has anyone else had difficulty getting it replaced?

You are folding your tops incorrectly. The material must not be pinched by the metal hinges of the frame. Make sure you fold the soft top material away, I tried to illustrate with the purple arrow.

If you do not want to or for some reason donā€™t agree then at least get some black rubber hosing and put that over those metal parts where it pinches the soft top. It will mitigate the scissors type of movement by the frame hinges that are causing the damage.

I fold the soft top away from the frame so it does not pinch and use both velcro straps to minimise the movement.

My soft top seems to be made from a different material. Maybe I got the cheap version.

Any case, have a look at these pictures. It will give you an idea of how I fold my soft top to get the material out of the way of the soft top frame (Scissors effect).
