One loose bolt and the motor blows up? Yeah right. Vehicle was running when you pulled it over…I hate dealerships. Sounds like they’re making warranty work for themselves…at least it’s covered. I would take this as an indication though and never bring a vehicle to them for anything after the warranty expires. Not even an oil change… I could be wrong, but my sense say watch out.

My 2.0L is toast and will not be replaced under warranty. Whatever you do don’t replace your own oil! Apparently that’s grounds for warranty denial. Did my own oil for convenience. 2 weeks later checked by dealer as part of their multipoint check (car went in for unrelated service). Oil level fine a month before the CEL came on. Oil level fine and pressure ok at that point so I allowed my daughter to drive it to dealer a few days later and they said it only had a quart in it. Ran fine but main shaft bearing toast.

Warranty won’t cover stating we didn’t do appropriate service as I could only provide receipt for oil purchase and not dealer invoice. Now I am on the hook for $12k and they cannot get it done for 6 more weeks.
so, where did the oil go?

It’s a coolant leak. That’s all it takes.
It’s extremely common at this point, you should relax.

No idea. Thats the issue. Mystery leak. The dealer insists no evidence of leak from loose filter or bolt. They are hinting I didn’t fill it correctly. Cannot be the case since my local dealer checked it 6 weeks prior and I checked it every month. Good or maybe a little high on dipstick. Again not a hint of low oil pressure or level from car idiot lights.

the problem I have is historically I am sure that the dealer and warranty companies deal with people who don’t maintain there cars. Thats what this looks like to them. Its simply not the case here.

Interested in what the internals look like once the engine is rebuilt. Doubt I will ever find out and will be stuck with bill.

did your turbo fail? How long has it been since you changed the oil?
what did you use?

I’m sorry happened to you.

SMHHHHHHH!!!!!!! I heard about this potentially happening.

I’ve changed my oil 3 separate times, but each time I log into my Mopar/Jeep’s owner account and update the maintenance with mileage & who serviced it.

I’ve had multiple things replaced/maintenanced by the dealer and sometimes they will forget to add the maintenance/repair record in “the system”. When I see it’s not showing up as a record, I will add it myself using their invoice.

with my most recent engine replacement…the dealer didn’t add it, so I added it myself. I’m not sure if this would prove you’ve done the maintenance but I would assume that it would definitely support it.

I believed it helped my situation where my engine was replaced through my EW.

Again…sorry that you have to go through it. What’s the name of that dealership btw? I’d potentially want to stay clear of them.

Not sure the dealer was the one who made decision so I am not going to mention their name yet. It went to the district dealer manager who decides. This is in central Ohio. The frustration really began when I contacted Jeep Cares to see how to appeal and they would not give contact information for the person responsible for the decision. They only say “we have to back up our dealers”.

just beware that if you do your own oil changes they assume its your fault. IMO there is another issue with the motor that caused this. Your approach is how I will prevent this in the future.

See above. Good luck with your service provider. Stoked you’re covered by the warranty.

Yes, I’ve been told that multiple times.

I typically have conversations with my FCA/Stellantis mechanic (he’s worked on our Mopars since 2005). I will always ask him his recommendations on what the dealership uses (their standard) for oil type/brand for my Jeep. He informs and tells me about his method and always gives helpful advice whenever he knows I’ma do something on the jeep.

I’ve gotten 3 things replaced under factory warranty via the dealership he works for. For my engine replacement, he was swamped with vehicles and had issues troubleshooting/diagnosing the prob bc of his work load.

Upon recommendation, from a trusted suspension/off-roading Jeep shop here in my city, I was told to take it to another dealer (who they have a great relationship with) and they had the time to find the issue, process the replacement through my EW and conduct the work.

From what I’ve been reading it seems the consensus is to have a great relationship with a dealer so that the chances for work to be approved/processed will be greater.

$12k is massive but it was in the range of what I was quoted if my EW didn’t kick in. If the dealer isn’t able to sort this in your favor, you might want to look around at reputable independent shops in your area to see what they would change for this type of work.

Actually, might be a good idea to inquire now. Hoping for the best with your situation. ??

My dealer would have alot easier to dealer with but the car was out of town at the time. It was disassembled (body off) in order to diagnose prior to the denial of warranty. I would have been stuck with about $3000 to put it back together and bring it home. I feel like I was trapped. This experience is going to make me reconsider the purchase of another Chrysler product I was getting ready for.

You have been taken advantage of in a major way.

@mwilk012 ???

@thello
I’m not sure why I overlooked this statement…. Did the dealership ask your permission to “break the engine down” to diagnose?

To my knowledge, they should’ve received your permission prior to them doing this….
