I avoid having it partially open, especially at highway speeds, not sure if the high winds would catch the raised gaps, and eventually stress parts resulting in it not sealing up properly when closed, like some complain about.

Yes, you can even open and close it at up to 55 mph.

Yes that I am aware of.

That is what my concerns are. I feel the extra 'flapping' of having it partially opened will damage it.

Hello, So because someone could not tell the difference between green and red my precious 2018 JLUR with 28K miles and only 5 payments to go is now a total loss. I am looking to buy a new-to-me Rubicon with similar miles and really want one that is not grey, black or white. Have you noticed 95% of cars/ trucks are grey, black or white? There are 2 nice looking Sarge green jeeps for sale near me but both have the Sky One Touch top. I am hesitant to buy a used cloth-top vehicle to be my daily driver. Does anyone know what it would cost to replace the cloth part of the Sky One Touch if/ when it needs it? Are the parts available for me to do it or is it something that an upholstery person would have to do? I tried several google searches and could not find anything. Thanks

The color question? I have definitely noticed that.

As far a the top goes, I love my SOT. There are a couple of caveats that you should be aware of. I have no idea how much you pimp out your ride but there are a surprising amount of accessories that won't work with the SOT. You can't get any really decent roof rack system, especially the Rhino back bone system. Various things tend to use the bolts that hold down the hard top. You won't have those so any side bag or side storage that relies on those won't work.

Anyway, I am happy I got mine.

Yes, it flaps pretty badly at highway speed if only partially open. I generally close it above 60 just because of the wind noise, but if I was going to leave open, I'd open it all the way up at those speeds.

As for colors... The whole world is stuck on Euro everything.. Car colors..Black, White and blend 'em you get grey, add metallic you get silver. Jeep was always known for its special yearly colors, now try to find Punpkin, Bikini Pearl, Tuscadero, Snazzberry, etc..its cheaper to paint as many as possible in 1 color. My neighborhood BMW dealer said they can always sell black, white or grey, but colors take awhile. Manufacturers should require dealers to order colors.
The observed frequency of safe monotones (esp. the rotating variations on gray or silver) didn't really become prevalent until the JKUs got a foothold. My theory is that the market increase brought about by a 4-door Wrangler brought with it broadband consumer trends for so-called safe color choices.

Said differently, the dilution of the traditional Jeep buying market had a concurrent effect on the take rate for fun colors like Punk'n, Bikini and the rest. Fewer enthusiasts means less enthusiasm for legacy things like extroverted paint choices. As the Unlimiteds are here to stay, and particularly because they outsell the 2 doors by a significant margin, expect said trends to remain just as established.

I'd have the same concern, and would likely default to fully open or fully closed, just for peace of mind.

That's why you pull those corner windows out....the air moves thru like a ......breeze.
(Not my Jeep for demonstration purposes only.)

America has always been a land of choice and "extroverted aka non boring colors " will always be available even if in a drab color environment. I will wrap before I will allow colorless choices to define my rides...but yours was an interesting insight.

Love the SOT but with anything there is always a trade off.
Texas heat and noticeably warmer at head level than hard top. Noise level also higher on freeway but this should be expected. Wouldn’t change my mind as I like being able to open it easily.

Install a Hothead SOT liner, it's an absolute game changer! Compared to a hardtop that also has a full headliner install it might not be as cool/quiet, but compared to a standard hardtop or hardtop plus Sunrider it's way better. I was able to directly compare between my Jeep and my wife's with those combos and I'll take my SOT w/liner every day.
