I am in the final year of the lease on my 2023 Wrangler Willys 2D and starting to look at my options. I would really like to get a 4D Willys to make hauling passengers easier. Most of the 2026 Willys 4D models I've seen come with the One-Touch Power-Top. Thoughts on this option? I live in Minnesota, so we get snow and cold weather (usually a week-long span of 20 degrees below zero each winter). I want to like it, but I really like the hard-top that I currently have. I usually do not remove the top or the Freedom panels, so I'm not sure how much I would use the Power-Top. Maybe due to the convivence of just having to push a button I might change my mind. Just not seeing the hard tops on the lots anymore. For those that have the Power-Top, how has it been? Reliability? Leaks? Wind Noise?, etc.

My other option is to purchase my current Wrangler, which I really like as well. As always, it comes down to finances and deals!

I use the SOT all year even in the winter, I would also suggest getting heated seats and steering.

I don't really care about reliability, if something catastrophic happens with it, I can always buy a hardtop or a soft top to replace it.

I would never buy another Wrangler without the SOT, best option for regions with 4 seasons.

This old guy who would never remove the hard top for a day trip, has nowhere to store it for longer ones, been snowed, rained on, wet cold and miserable with unexpected weather changes appreciates it. Push button, done. Nice day cruising around push button, done. Plus security concerns topless. Just too bad a roll down rear window isn’t possible like my 4R had.
No leaks on my 21, the noise level proved not high enough for the planned Hotheads Headliner. I do live in central Ca where cold isn’t an issue, but 100+ summers aren’t a problem.

I have heated seats and steering wheel in my current Willys, and use them all the time. That is a must-have option for me!

So far I love mine, a 2020 JLU. We run trails in Colorado so the weather can change several times in an afternoon. Its nice to hit the button and either close it up to the elements or open it up. The freedom panels have to be stored in the back or left at the cabin so I'm glad I don't have to deal with them. The wind noise is suprisingly extremely minimal and haven't had any water leaks. 5-1/2 years old with no issues, I can easily say my next one will have it too.

Reading your post, the best set up for you is HARD TOP plus Headliner Insulation. Why pay for Pwr. Top that you don't seem like you need?
Have you considered ordering or expanding the search to on Jeep.com?
Personally, I love taking my top off/ softtop down.

The coldest winter in a long time and my five year old SOT is still doing great.
Opens and closes up to 60 mph and I actually enjoy the minimal sound of the wind when it is in the rare closed position. Even here in the North East I’d say I get a solid 9 months with it open.
And with the SOT you can take the two corner windows out for a perfect breeze thru the cabin.

Love ours. Is a must have option.
I like the contrasting look of it from the outside as well.
Other than the upcoming Scout Traveler, I don't think anyone else offers it.
A main reason I'd never consider a Bronco.
Will not keep as warm or quiet as a hard top, but for us, the convenience far outweighs that.

I've not seen any reliability concerns. We rented one on vacation and I didn't notice more noise or temperature than my hard top. I would absolutely buy one, don't let it deter you.

One thing I avoid is, driving with the SOT partially open, especially on the highway or higher speeds.

When partially open there are raised folds that the wind can catch, and probably cause issues.

I also don't open or close it while at higher speeds, and mostly try to stick to that when stopped. dunno, just a precaution, and I really don't have need to operate it when in motion.

They have a lot more wind noise then a normal hard top, we have only seen a few broken components on them at the dealership so far
In what time frame ? There was a thread on the early ones breaking the plastic rivets the pull straps attach to with detailed fix instructions using bolts and nuts instead. But nothing for years since…. An added reason for not getting the Hotheads and increasing rivet stress.

I partially open mine all the time and open it at max allowed speed. Not issues at all on my '21 or now on my '23.

I love mine. Just push the button when it starts raining. Push it again when the rain stops. Repeat as desired.

Mine, however, is in the shop getting fixed. $1,400. My wife initially said hell no, then she realized how much she absolutely loves it and caved.

If you're not much of a fan, why not simply order a new Jeep for a deep discount? See the spreadsheet in my sig for details.

I'm in Minnesota as well, and cannot praise the SOT enough! This is the one feature I must have on a Wrangler forever more. That button gets used so much.

Ours is garage parked, so its not too cold in the morning. It also has the 2.0, which heats up super quick. So cold is never an issue for us. Plus, I ordered ours with almost every option except leather seats. Even in the winter, the Jeep is my vehicle of choice if for no other reason than it has cloth seats, while our other two vehicles have leather seats (despite them being heated).

We've had ours since 2019, and have the unlimited car wash. So, it runs through the flapper style car wash at least once a week. No leaks.

The one comment is that it does have some rattles. I believe there are things that can be done to address those, I just haven't been bothered enough to do them.

And naturally, I am eying the Scout Traveler with the power top for our other vehicle.
