I’m a Spotify user now. It’s on my phone, so it’s available in every vehicle. No need to buy a receiver, so that justifies a monthly cost in my opinion. Plus I can listen to whatever I’m in a mood to hear, not jist the same 40-50 songs on a loop, like SXM.I now just Bluetooth my mp3s to the Jeeps' Uconnect from my phone. Uninterrupted music, and by definition only what I want to listen to, across every genre that interests me.
That M.O. has positively ruined me for terrestrial radio, which is now almost pointless IMO, and even things like Sirius. It's not just about having to endure the occasional blather by the XM DJs, but also something I call the Cherry Pie Syndrome. Said differently, Sirius does recurringly play the same tired songs, across related channels, that I can hear for free on FM.
Nope. I'm not paying for that.
Granted, SXM has all those different stations, but they often have overlapping songs, many of which don’t fit the format of the station/channel. I station hopped there as much as I did with AM/FM radio. It was good for a while, but it just doesn’t make sense anymore. Buying a receiver, whether in a car or separately, should get you unlimited access, at least to all the content that has advertising on it.
