I mean if I’m going on a dedicated offroad trip I might throw a trenching shovel or something in the trunk. But for “just having it on hand” you can’t beat an e-tool.
My full-sized shovel doesn't take up any space, so it's always there.

I took another picture of my $8 Home Depot shovel (can’t really remember what it really cost) with the plastic mount I made from my scrapped OEM tire carrier.
Jeep Wrangler JL Shovels IMG_1873

Likely more useful than the jack which is bolted to the Teraflex mount although there are some wrenches inside somewhere.

Well that’s great but you didn’t post a pic of where you store it or a pic of the shovel
The only shovel you need. Cold Steel Special Forces shovel. It has a nice ring to it too.

Cold Steel has some great stuff. I have used this shovel many many times over the years. I have abused the shit out of it and it just works great. Plus, I like sharping it around the camp fire when it is needed. It fits in my Cargo Dog storage box as I would not want it coming loose in an accident or a roll over flying around inside of the Jeep. Well I am not a big fan of how many store stuff in the Jeep in general. Most holders will not fair well in an accident. Like who wants to get hit in the head by a big ass Mag light held in place by some crap flashlight holder a get smacked by a fire extinguisher that came loose from a velcro holder. Not this guy.

Anyways this shovel kicks ass.

This is the one I have, not a bad price and even better it's not a stupid e-tool.

I like the exterior mounts. I dont want to put a muddy shovel in my jeep and the stagnant mud holes in VA stink.

It's not just the mud holes in Va. That whole state smells funky. Usually from the pulp mills and paper factories all over the place. Lives there for 20 years. I left in 2016 and don't miss it at all.

My thoughts exactly. I guess a short shovel is better than nothing, but man, something fuller-size is so much easier to use.
Obligatory that's what she said.

What's wrong with an e-tool? I used to love mine in the Army. Super handy.
There is nothing wrong with the E-tool. Buy what is best for you. I like my stuff to be simple. I also have never in all the wheeling I have done used my shovel for recovery. I use my shovel primarily to dig fire pits, and small holes, and as a hatchet to trim back branches and occasionally to split smaller pieces of wood.

Seems like they're selling a shovel shaped weapon, not a shovel for digging.

I keep it and several other tools in a tough box in the back when I head out on a trail. Interestingly enough, I have never needed the shovel, but my saw and branch cutting tools have been used on several occasions.

It can defiantly be used as a weapon. It often sits next to my camp chair at camp. I am reasonably confident that nobody wants to be struck with a Cold Steel shovel. I would think it is way more dangerous than the average knife. Plus I often sit around the fire and sharpen it for something to do.
