shifting issues

hey guys new to the forum so sorry if im posting in the wrong area . anyways i recently bought a 2001 jeep wrangler and all is good except when i shift into drive i have to go down to second gear then up to drive in order to get it into drive also when i put it in park and come back to start it sometimes it wont start and have to start in neutral . also one time was going to put it in park and it was grinding so had to turn off then go into park . other than that everything works as should be shifts fine no signs of failing transmission . any ideas ?

you need to adjust the automatic shift linkage.
