Shifter stuck in park FML.....

Hi all!

So I adjusted my parking brake last night because it was almost at the end of its travel range before engaging. I did this by lifting the center console to give me access to the parking cable adjusting bracket. I tightened the nut several turns and the parking brake now engages about 3/4 of the way of total possible lever travel.

The following morning I couldn't get the shifter out of park.

Any suggestions before I start troubleshooting?

See if releasing will remedy things..

Listen carefully and stop pulling on the orange strap just as soon as you hear a slight audible click.
Pulling too far will release and then undo release..

No luck after resetting the manual park release.

BTW,
No alerts on the dash showing any problems.
Parking brake light is not on.
Doors are fully shut.
Foot on brake pedal.

Also,
Parking brake indicator light was off and rear wheels were spinning freely yesterday after the adjustment. After that, I fastened down the center console and didn't try to drive it until this morning when the problem arose.

Maybe I did something when I lifted up the back of the center console to tighten the brake cable bracket??? I just don't understand what I could have disturbed.

I wonder if disconnecting the battery would do anything?
Gotta love electronics, lol!

Stray wire not allowing the white plastic shifter release mechanism to disengage...

Then do the same for the person next to you.

I'm actually having this problem right now after moving the center console as well. That white plastic mechanism popped off for me and i put it back in and can use it to release the pedal manually but when i do that it will move to gear and flash in that gear. I can move the pedal back to park and as soon as I do it locks up again.

Any thoughts?
