Confession time. Back in 2001, I worked overnight at a downtown hotel. I would just park my car (2000 Firebird convertible) on the street right behind the hotel, and leave first thing in the AM before traffic got bad.

One day, I get in the car to leave, and an 18 wheeler pulls up right next to me and stops. It's a little alleyway of a one-way street, so I barely have room to open my door. I waited to see if he would move. When he didn't, I got out and went around the back of the truck to ask the driver when he was moving.

As soon as I got around the truck, he started to leave. All of a sudden, I hear this horrendous metal grinding sound. I think he's losing his load (big pipes lashed to a flatbed). Nope.

Turns out, I forgot to close my door. He's caught it with a rear tire and run right over it. It's laying on the street, flat, but still attached by the lower hinge and wiring harness.

I was now tired and mad at myself. Rather than wait for a tow truck or something, I just grabbed the tools from my trunk, removed the lower latch, cut the wiring harness, then threw the door in the back seat with the top down. It was literally sticking up like a sail.

I drove it straight to the dealership and pulled in. Everyone just stared, then started calling other employees to come look. Years later, I would still have people ask me if I was the guy with the Firebird door.

Epilogue - turns out I did way more damage cutting the wiring harness than the truck did to the door. The door was an easy replacement. But, they had to put in a whole new harness, which cost a lot in labor. Oh well, live and learn.

Your wifes Jeep is your avatar? ☕
Yup. 'Cause I am it's mechanic. And the Wrangler's avatar is awesome compared to my rare, first-year 1.4L turbo'd, 6 speed manual, 30mpg, stage rally running Renegade's avatar. The truck is great but it looks like it needs stickers of duckies and bunnies. No getting around it.

Wife is a nurse and left home this morning at 6AM, in the dark, with her JL aptly named "Fiona". See my avatar. She claimed she "didn't see it in the backup camera", but she backed into the black blow-molded mailbox and cue-balled that thing it into the street along with any caution or care.

I awoke to an 8AM text: "Can you go get the mailbox?"

I have a few loose Takata airbags and thinking of mounting to my other Jeep's front bumper for it's protection.

Anyone here do things to protect their property from other JL drivers?
Years back my wife was leaving for work, it was a Friday so I was home. I refuse to work on Fridays. So I watch her get into her Jeep, slowly back out of the driveway. Carefully looking left then right. Gave me a cute wave, looked left and right again, and continued to back up. Meanwhile, I’m saying , She sees it, right ? She didn’t. She backed straight into a big red work van that was sitting across the driveway directly across the street. BIG, full-size Ford Ecoline, RED, fire engine red. It had to be taking up her entire rear view mirror. Never even hit the brakes, like it wasn’t even there. Then she tri to say it was my fault, that I made her nervous by watching her. But she is definitely a better driver, just ask her.

A person can be re-evaluated on their dl by referring them to the dmv. This is usually done by a law enforcement officer. However, I would not recommend this be done to a family member. It probably would lead to a very uncomfortable situation of sleeping on the couch for an undetermined amount of time.

My wife backed her new (at the time) 2011 JKU out of the garage and bent the plastic bumper forward after catching the garage door track. I never mention it…just fixed them.

I back my recently traded 2022 JT into a pole (listening to Van Halen too loudly). Her and my daughters don’t let me forget about the one time I had to replace a taillight. ?

Nope… But I reminded of a story my grandpa use to tell me where every weekend he would get his mailbox smashed by some local teens like clock work. Getting tired of it, he eventually filled the box with concrete. The next night he heard this loud smack and scream. Problem was permanently solved going forward. He had that broken bat over his work bench for as long as I could remember…
I had a group of teenagers in our neighborhood that kept thinking it was funny driving all over everyone's lawns at night. So one night I went out and placed a bunch of 2x4s with nails thru and covered them with just enough dirt to not see the wood (but walking you could see the nails). Didn't take long and the scumbags come whipping down the road and to our lawn. I could hear them as I lay in bed. Then I heard a whup whup whup sound which turned out to be the sound that a 2x4 makes when it slams into your floorboards. They also flattened the tires on the driver side. I could hear it as they drove past the house WHUMP WHUMP WHUMP. Driver cursing as well. I never even got out of bed. I just giggled and snuggled back under the covers with my wife. They never came back and it never happened again

I don't know. I'll see your mail box and raise you the largest truck you're likely to see on the street.

Nothing more says 'Merica' then that. I have more to say, but I won't.

The car started beeping, it was annoying. So I turned my T Swift up- probably the wife lol
My mom did something like that when I was a teenager. She backed into a friend's car, when asked about it she said the sensors were going off but she thought it was just the dogs. My dad and I both asked her if she was trying to hit the dogs.

About 20 years ago, wifey took out the 2ft x 2ft x 4ft red brick corner pillar, with her I30 Infinity, on our driveway retaining wall. Took it clean off the corner of the wall. Took out the quarter panel, bumper, trunk lid, trunk pan. Expensive repair to the car. Our driveway curves. But it is pretty much stationary, except for the California earthquakes.

I'm glad to say that the Missus is a decent, safe driver.

The only quibble I have concerns her apparent affection for what I call Parking By Contact. No matter my verbal ministrations through the years, she simply has to have tactile feedback of when to put the car in Park.

These weighted, flashing Stop signs were the best $9.99 I've ever spent. Note also the demonstrative angle of the plastic pole.

I have those, too. They work well.

With the last Wrangler we had, my wife managed to catch the corner of the hard top on a cable junction box on the outside wall of the house. Ripped the box off the wall and put a big gouge in the hard top.

Years ago, my husband thought it would be funny to back his Jeep right up against his cousins truck, blocking him in. He slowly backed up attempting to put the spare tire as close as possible against the trucks tailgate. He was so smooth, he didn’t feel any contact as as he backed up his spare tire on the Jeep caved in the entire tailgate. (04 Jeep, no backup camera)

Of course we offered to pay for the fairly extensive damage (and my husband did pay cause he’s never lived it down) but the truck got hit along the side and rear shortly afterwards..so we lucked out not having to!

Love these stories!
