So we just got back our 2020 Wrangler after it was in the body shop for 3+ weeks getting the door corrosion fixed for the second time (different area than original I believe). Since picking it up the Service Stop/Start light/message has been on. I know this happened the first time it sat in a body shop for a similar amount of time and honestly can't recall how long it took for the message to clear. Guessing the secondary ESS battery died and needs to recharge via driving, but we did over 100 miles today and it's still not clearing. Granted much of the drive was 85+ degrees with the AC cranked if that has an effect. The Jeep has abount 50k miles so wouldn't be suprised if it's ready for a new battery, but since it did similar last time and cleared out don't want to jump the gun. So long story short, how long should it take for the ESS battery to get back in a god sate if the Jeep sat for multiple weeks like ours did?

It won’t recover, it’s an AGM battery and there’s no saving them when they get depleted.

However, that is far from the only thing that causes the “service ESS” notice to come on. Does the ESS page show battery protection mode or battery charging?

Thanks for the reply, checked the ESS screen and it only says ESS unavailable service ESS system (or something along those lines, no root cause beyond that). Beyond frustrated as the dealer is the one that picked up the Jeep from the body shop where it was for 3+ weeks and made no mention of the error. My best guess is it mostly sitting there for that time a battery drained or died (it sitting for weeks is the only event from when it was working and not, there's no other warning lights or the like) It definitely did this last time it was in for the same work, but don't recall it being unavailable for this long, been driven probably 150-200 miles now. Looks like it needs to go back in to the dealer after getting it back from it being there 3 weeks, mind blowing.

Anything else to check, I don't have a volt meter or anything to check each battery myself, is there a way to clear out the error to see if it returns or is this a check that occurs each startup?

Go buy a $20-40 voltmeter, every man should own one. Disconnect the intelligent battery sensor and the aux battery, wait a few minutes, then reconnect them. It doesn’t sound like a battery problem though. No check engine light on, right?

Does your remote start work?

Remote start works fine and there's no check engine light etc. Do you have a link or the like on disconnecting the battery sensor/aux battery? I'll poke around the forum for this as well.

The IBS is the small plug on the negative battery terminal, you just unplug it.

Going to give it another day or so then try this. Seems super easy, looking online it seems that after reseting the IBS it takes around 5 cold starts (with at least 8 hours between to count) for IBS to recalibrate, and before then ESS specifically can throw errors. Wondering if the body shop or dealer did this procedure and needs another day or two to be all set. Going to call the dealer today, and ask if this is common, they claim to be be getting several Wranglers a week with the corrosion, thus weeks in the body shop.

Removed the IBS plug for 5-10 minutes then reconnected and the Service ESS remains. Also checked the fuses were all in and that fuse 42 not blown. At this point I think I need to bring it to the dealer. While I could care less the system isn't working I worry it can mess other things up and also drives me crazy to have a warning light/message on the dash. Thanks for the suggestions!
