I’m currently having the same problems with my 2018 jeep, I have had the ABS module antilock brake system changed when I left the dealership everything was fine but when I got home turned my truck off & turned it back on all the lights on my dashboard started blinking, service shifter came on & I was stuck in park. I don’t have a clue what to do now
Ugh - I don't like the sound of this...
Ours has been sitting in shop considered "unsafe to operate." Last Friday they reached out to let me know that the problem is with the ABS module. I pushed back that it doesn't seem like that would cause the Jeep to not shift into gear and they replied, "I know it sounds odd but that's what it is." This repair will cost me about $1700.00 out of pocket. Additionally, they can't get the parts needed until mid-September so we're down a vehicle until that time. I've requested a loaner but they said that they don't have any available which means that I will most likely need to rent a car on my own.
So far the dealerships have refused to replace the wiring harness that others above have mentioned as the fix.

I called Chrysler dealership in Florida & lucked up & they had a ABS module in stock but they would only sell to my dealership so I had my dealership call them to order it I only paid $349 out of pocket to get it out on but now my dealership is saying it’s the harness wire…I’m so over Jeep’s now I will never purchase another one

We feel the same. We had a Rubicon 4xe on order that finally came in a week or so ago and we refused delivery based on this experience. Now let's see how long it takes to get the deposit back.
I keep asking them to check the wiring harness and they flat out refuse. And claim that Jeep doesn't have a service note related to this issue and/or the wiring harness.
With our braking repairs - they said that it's the ABS module and the brake regulator or something like that. Apparently, the latter must be the expensive component. I was driving when they called so asked that they email or text the information to me but didn't hear back.
With ours, the intermittent gear shifting issue started in January. Originally it only occurred when starting the engine. The situation has progressed to intermittently occur while stopped at a light or in traffic (when the engine re-engages to go forward the transmission acts as if it's in neutral and won't go forward thereby stranding the vehicle in the roadway until it decides to re-engage in gear.) And the newest issue is that the instrument panel occasionally becomes non-responsive while freeway driving.
Good luck to you

Don't let them do this! My dealership did the same thing. My jeep sat there for a month and I pick up the jeep no more than 3 minutes on the highway guess what pops up? Service the damn shifter!!
They covered the fix under warranty. Then wanted to replace my cruise control module but told me they needed to take my lift off to recalibrate camera and would need to charge me $1200. I told them to kick rocks! I should have let them do it to prove to them what I have been saying that it wasn't the problem and watch then eat the charge. Cause no way in hell would I pay for that.

Why hasn't jeep made a note of this yet? Seems to me jeep is losing a sizable amount of money paying for all these warranty covered module changes that do nothing but piss everybody off.. unbelievable this thread started back in 2019 and no real progress has been made! Type the words into your note system and click the button! I have been at this for about 6 months now!

Below is my post regarding a specific dealership and this issue, I would advise others with this issue to report it to NHTSA Report as it's super dangerous and I think enough people have had it happen to warrant a recall. Nothing like taking a turn at 60 to have the power steering flop out and the engine rev yet the dealership below told me there wasn't any problem.

Jeep Tate Frederick, MD
My vehicle was in for a recall and to check a dangerous issue prior. I was told there was no issue after the first service. I filled out a survey based on this service. I took it back when the issue happened again. Spoke with Joe in person and service was agreed upon with the wire harness.

Joe then got the information from my previous survey AFTER service was agreed upon and called me outraged about the survey that I had filled out honestly from the first service and to come to pick up my jeep immediately without completing any service on a very dangerous issue that was agreed upon in person.

This dealership will refuse to fix or look at an extremely dangerous issue with the power steering/EBS/ Shifting going out if you fill out a survey. The moral of the story is don't bring your business here.

We picked our Jeep up from the dealership this afternoon and paid just shy of $1800.00 for diagnostics and replacement of the ABS module and brake booster. Prior to the repair I shared the info from this site with the dealership and with Jeep Cares. The reports that those items would not solve our gear shifter issue but they insisted this was the necessary repair. We drove it the 15 miles home from the dealership. Parked it in our driveway for a few hours. Went back out to drive it and the service shifter warning is back and it will not shift into gear. We've now spent just under 2500.00 and many months on this only to still have an unsafe and barely operable vehicle. Not a happy customer.

This sounded silly to me but I tried it and for at least a few miles it has not happened again. Pull off the glove box and make sure all those star connectors are snug. It might bitch about your airbag but the glovebox is easy to get off. Just unfo the left arm and push down on the tray, it should come right off. Check those connections. I'll keep you updated as well. Also fill out a nhsta form because this issue is maddening and dangerous and jeep is quiet about it for some reason.

The two circles are where you remove the arm on the left and then just kind push on the top circle area and the glovebox will pop right off. Make sure those green and white plugs are snug.

Thank you for this - we’ll give it a shot. I think that we’ll also see if we can get to the catalytic converter to look for anything rubbing there (as others have pointed out.)
I’ve called and texted the dealership - no response yet.
And, yes - I filed an nhtsb safety report a couple months back. Our Jeep has the idle stop/start feature so it has started having the failure when the Jeep restarts at an intersection (stranding the jeep blocking in an intersection until it decides to play along and go back into gear)And once while traveling on a 70mph highway all the instruments quit functioning. These instances occurring with my freshly licensed 16yo behind the wheel. Definitely a safety issue.

Yes its a scary safety issue I have it filled out as well. I tried this and knock on wiid UT hasn't happened for a few Miles yet. My main problem is jeep is silent about this and the jeep techs I have talked to seem almost clueless as well. I have taken videos of me starting my car getting out and it trying to put itself into gear and lurching forward. Yet per the last dealership they saw nothing wrong... let me know if you see any change

Update: it won’t even start now.
at least it would start before the dealership had it.
