2018 Wrangler JLU
I bought a 2018 Wrangler JLU a few weeks ago and have been very happy - I waited too long to get back in to a Wrangler. All was great until today when I was driving home from work. On my way home, I had the cruise set at 53 and all of the sudden all of the lights in the shifter "P, R, N, D, and M" all started flashing. A message popped up on the dash that read "Service Shifter" and the engine light came on. I pulled over and moved the shifter to Park but the Jeep started to roll when I took my foot off of the brake (not in park even though the shifter was in P). I then turned the Jeep off (lever still in park) and it physically shifted to park at that moment, but even when turned off the lights in the shifter continued to flash. I started it back up and the lights in the shifter were still flashing and the engine light stayed on. I was able to shift into gear to drive, but I turned it off again and called the dealership that I bought it from and scheduled an appointment for tomorrow morning. I then started it up again (it was off for about 5 minutes) and the lights in the shifter were no longer flashing, but the engine light is still on. I am a little frustrated that I have only had it for 18 days and have approximately 900 miles on it and am already experiencing this. No time is good to have vehicle trouble, but the timing is terrible - I was supposed to drive it to Phoenix tomorrow morning...but that isn't going to happen. At least the dealer was helpful over the phone and is going to give me a loaner so I can still head to the Airport.

I have had the the " Service Shifter" happen to me twice now, both times it lock me in whatever gear i was in at the time of the error. 1st time stuck in 8th and was unable to get the jeep moving after stopping. After shutting off the jeep, it would not restart, continued try to get it to start and after maybe 20 tries it started and work as if nothing had happen. 2nd time rock crawling up a steep grade, and in the middle of the hill ESS error came on (which in 4L should not even be in play), then Traction control error, then service 4w system. At this time because it no longer thinks I'm in 4L it drops the Lockers and sway bar disconnect. Was going to use wrench to get out of this spot, but do to another problem my jeep seem to have, once it get hot under the hood it will not start. So I disconnected both battery posts which seem to clear the problem as well as the hood being open for about 15 min while i was get the wench attached to a tree up the trail. When I got back in and started the Jeep i had my 4L back and was able to drive up the trail for about another 1/2 mile stuck in 1st gear before it started to shift again. The fake hood vents need to be opened up to let the hot air out when moving slow as in 4 wheeling is my feeling.

Not sure if this is similar but they ended up replacing the whole shifter took a bit of time too........
Just bought a JLU Sahara this past Saturday. Automatic. Put 600 miles on it. Wednesday night went to shift it to park and only got up to neutral position. Could not shift to R then P. Could not shift it back to D. Front dash reads "Service Shifter" - flashing. The N is also flashing by the gear shifter. Could not disengage with the interior pull or from under the jeep.

Had to have it towed to the dealership. If anyone has dealt with this, let me know what the issue was. Dealership hasn't had the ability to look at it yet.

My mother in law got the same thing on her 2017 Cherokee. Looks like all the jeep family is having this issue.

I’m having the same issue in my 2018 Wrangler JL. I took it to the dealer yesterday and they called today said it was fixed. They said some wires were rubbing. I didn’t care to ask more details but it didnt seem like the right fix. I drove home and my check engine light came up and the service shifter again. I’m calling tomorrow to have them take it in again

Having the same problem. When the service shifter light was first comin on in my Wrangler it died in the middle of a parking lot, could not shift in park, all lights were blinking, wipers came on. It took about 10 minutes before it started again. It is an 18 unlimited rubicon. Now I'll just lose power steering while driving or it will not shift past 4th unless it is in manual. So very unimpressed with Jeep customer service, it is my first Wrangler and it will definatly be my last. My local dealership wont take it in until the 2nd of Jan and wont even give me a loaner to drive ( called on the 22nd).
Called the Jeep customer service line and the woman basically told me "I don't know what to tell ya".

2018 WRANGLER JL RUBICON
I recently purchased a brand new 2018 Jeep JL Unlimited Wrangler Rubicon in May 2018. The current milage on my Wrangler is 12,332.

2 times now my vehicle while driving has completely stalled as in the P,R,N,D lights near my shifter will all light up simultaneously. My dashboard will say "NO BUS", service shifter, auto start/stop not available, and the engine light will come on. The engine light will not return though after a few starts of the Jeep later.

1st time the vehicle stalled was while I was driving in the rain around 40 mph, the steering wheel locked and as mentioned above that happened. I brought it in to the Jeep dealership where I purchased it, told them my concerns even with the dead spot in the steering and it was serviced for a few days. Received it back and was told the mechanic was unable to replicate the issue and that there were updates done "UPDATED PCM SOFTWARE AND TEST DROVE VEHICLE".

After getting it back and a few weeks of driving my rubicon it was fine in all weather conditions. But just 2 days ago while in the rain it stalled again at around 30 mph but the steering didn't lock up. I had to pull over to the side of the road with my emergency lights on, put it in park, and restart it.

Has anyone else had issues with their wrangler doing this? I don't think the weather has anything to do with this situation. Could it be after the cruise control recall? I honestly don't know what's going on and I feel like it's dangerous that this can happen any time again. Any help would greatly be appreciated!

The images below were taken today when I brought in the vehicle for service for today. The service advisor plugged in a device into the wrangler which codes appeared on their iPad.

Had the same problem, have your dealership check the wiring connector located behind the pass. front tire below battery for pushed out pins. They should un-plug and re-install the connector a couple of time to make sure it put together correctly and tie.

Jeep Wrangler 2019
I’m having similar issues with my 2019 Jeep Wrangler and nobody seems to be able to figure it out. I’ve taken it to multiple different shops over the past few months and it’s only getting worse. Do you know if anyone has filed a class action lawsuit for these issues?

Issues:
- randomly gets stuck in park
- shuts off randomly when stopped (red lights, drive throughs…)
- every light on the dash randomly comes on (brake light, engine light, ABS light, service shifter, traction control off, service 4WD, electronic throttle control, service stop/start system, etc)
- windshield whippers randomly turn on
- randomly accelerates for a second when driving then goes back to normal
- sometimes when I turn it off the vehicle will shake for a second
