I have a new 2021 Rubicon Unlimited. In my first off-road, this scraping (1 sec and 2 sec into attached video) persisted for the entire 2 hours I was bumping off-road in 4L. Sounds and feels like it was beneath my feet. Doesn't reproduce in 4H or 2H or when trail is smooth. Thoughts?

Do you mean 4H? Because below that you say it doesn't reproduce in 4L.

That doesn't sound right to me, does it seem like the sound occurs at a certain point in articulation or suspension flex or does it seem to be tied to speed or something? Or just random?

Sorry, It only reproduces in 4L on the consistent bumpy trail. That said, I was only in 4L on the bumps. I can't find it's trigger...seems steering indpendent and only comes out about every 3-4 seconds over consistent bumps. Happened with lockers on or off.

I can’t get your video to play but I just got my 2021 jlur two weeks ago and my first time out in the trail and I kept hearing a on and off grinding sound that sounds like it’s coming from either the transfer case or front driver side wheel. And it only happens in 4lo. It’s at the dealer right now and they can’t seem to figure out what it is.

I took it into the dealer, they couldn't reproduce it, couldn't find anything wrong said it was spotless and sent me home

What was their response when you showed them the video?

Did you ever get any root cause for your grinding sound?

I brought it in for the second time a few days ago and they called me this morning and said they took out another brand new 2021 and it was doing the same thing again and from what jeep told them it’s the abs engaging and slowing the wheel down. I found another thread on here where other people are having the same issue. it’s under the warranty and repair section

Would it make sense that my noise happens when crawling up a bumpy hill when I'm not using the brakes?

I started a thread a few months ago about this too. In 4L, climbing a very steep, snowy mountain section at very low speed, there was this grinding coming from what seemed like the front left axle.. And you could feel it too on your foot on the gas pedal...

It was the ABS kicking in for whatever reason.. I can't remember now lol.

This may seem like a dumb idea, but try turning Hill Assist off. It is in the settings. there is conjecture on this forum if it makes a difference in clutch feel, for me it has been dramatically more consistent with it off, but it activates the brakes and is a long shot, but can't hurt to try. I don't know why it would affect anything and I don't know why the brakes would activate at all in 4L as the traction control is off by default. Hope you find the issue and I will pay more attention in my 2019 next time I am in 4L to see if I can duplicate.
