So you're saying the problem is.... Safelite. That's the name on their van, their building, and their invoice for the multiple instances of shoddy work.
I’ve never had them do shoddy work and have been using them for years. Maybe the people who work in your local area do shoddy work.

Allstate refers me to safelite and they repair chips a no cost to me. Allstate doesn’t hold chip repair against my policy because they would rather pay $25 for chip repair than several hundred dollars for windshield replacement.
I had USAA. They didn’t hold it against me either. When I shopped for cheaper insurance it was listed as a claim and affected my rates. If you never plan on leaving Allstate, you’re probably good. But I wouldn’t bank on it not being noted and potentially used against you in the future. You’re crazy if you think they only charge your insurer $25 for a chip repair FYI. It’s a for profit business. Where’s the profit in driving to your location and filling a chip for $25?

I standby my statement that Safelite has a monopoly on windshield repairs and whether you know it or not, they are systematically driving up rates by overcharging your insurer. Eventually that cost will be passed back to you.

But it’s America, you’re free to continue to contributing to the increase in insurance rates as opposed to finding a local shop that will repair your windshield for significantly less than what Safelite charges.

If you do a cash replacement your windshield and use safelite, call in for a price and then check the online estimate. I have found they quote less on the phone that the internet price. However if you dont schedule the replacement online, they start emailing you $50 off coupons. I've had ranges from the high $200s to $400 cash replacement of the same windshield.

I used to use a place that was always $100 or so less than safelite, but as i said before they now only do insurance replacements.

I see the bill. Chip repair is $25. And many local shops either charge more or make you pay first and get reimbursed by your insurance company. When I call Allstate for the glass claim, they connect my call to safelite and safelite comes to me with mobile service. What could be better?

when i've shopped for windshields, Safelite has consistently been the most expensive in all cases.
i've worked with local shops instead, and had no problems with their products or services.

my first was damaged by a small boulder thrown by an oncoming truck just outside Moab. glass shop there replaces JL(U) windshields so often the guys knew the P/N by heart.
their quote was around $200 including parts and labor (non-OEM).

I'm so glad for you, man. Sorry I hurt your feelings by sharing a commonly bad experience with your glass shop.

No hurt feelings for me. I’m sharing my good experiences. Maybe you have substandard insurance?

No, I don't think that's it. Installers with little experience and a turn/burn production culture might be part of their model, though.

Yeah, my last experience with Safelite wasn't great either. Had a chip a few years back and took it to them for a repair. When they were done "fixing" it my chip had turned into a 2" long crack with a chip at both ends. The technician said he wasn't able to properly seal the original chip and had to add a small crack to get a better point to seal everything. To me, that smelled a little bit like bullshit but by then the damage was done. They did say they would deduct the cost of the repair from the price of a new windshield if it didn't hold. Fast forward a year and the crack eventually spread, but they were true to their word and deducted the cost of the original repair from the new glass. Caveat emptor.

I also wanted my T-rex chasing the Jeep. Worth the money for me.

Your wife is really gonna love my door pockets once those are done and installed.
I showed her your pics. She said, “How fun!”
