I ordered my 2-door Rubicon yesterday, and ordered the Sport/Sahara side steps from Quadratec last night. Guessing the stock rock rails will have to go, but sacrifices must be made with a bad back!

I just got the same Rubicon. I really like the ace rock sliders. Question: can you use them as a side step as well? I prefer the sleek look compared to the bulky side steps that are currently offered. I'm hoping they are functional as a step as well. THANKS!

Yes, you can use them getting in and out. Now, a little ole man/lady may have a little issue with them but yes, they can easily be used as side steps. Note: Unlike the plastic side step offerings, the powder coat on the Ace sliders gets scuffed up fairly easy from boots/shoes. SOooo, if you are concerned about looks you will find that you are routinely working on the Ace's doing scuff cover-up. Black bedliner spray, etc. can be used.

I just got mine installed and my 10 yr old daughter loves them as steps!

i ordered Rust-Oleum Bedliner Coating to cover up a couple of scratches, but I love the clean yet rugged look.

For Ace Sliders, yes... Rust-Oleum Bedliner Coating works great.

Personally I've never been too fond of the the ACE sliders, simply because to provide a product at a lower price point they cheap out and use a thinner wall tubing to make their sliders. The problem for those who wheeled their Jeeps is if you put the weight of the Jeep on the slider it would bend and damage the body which is why you see everyone who runs Ace sliders run them with the stock Rubi rock rails. Not sure if they've changed anything much, that was the case with their sliders for the JK.

Depending what you plan to do with your Jeep, I'd say that should dictate what you get. Back with my first Rubicon in '09 I swapped out the plastic side steps the dealer put on it for a set of LoD sliders that had an integrated step. Then a few years later when I got my '12 Rubicon I changed out the factory Rubi rails with another set of LoD sliders. They're a solid rock slider with an integrated step, I'm trying to remember, I think they were made with .120 dom tubing. Chris is pretty creative so it'll be interesting to see what he comes up with for the JL.

I think you have them confused with another manufacturer. Their sliders are made with 2 inch steel tubing, with a 0.134 thickness which are pretty much the largest diameter and thickest wall in the industry. I've had them since day 1 and they've always been like that. I have ran the ACE rails on 4 jeeps and the rails have protected over every obstacle.I've used them on the trail and have beaten them hard with no issue.

I have pivoted a JK with no Rubi rails off just one Ace rail in MOAB and have pictures somewhere.

As for the China thing, you couldn't be further off. I've been to their facility in Michigan and everything they sell is made right there in house.

I was only sharing what I remember seeing a number of times about ACE sliders on jkowners.com. Maybe they learned from those issues and went with a thicker wall tubing though it's not clear if it's DOM, ERW, or whatever since they only make a mention of "mild steel tubing". All it takes is a Google search for Jeep JK ACE failure to get an idea of what I was talking about. My point wasn't so much to bash ACE so much as point out that for the average Joe pounding the mall parking lot or dirt roads, the ACE slider/Rubi rail combo will be fine. If you're planning on doing any serious wheeling you want something that is going to be strong enough to support the weight of the Jeep. That along with needing something that also functioned as a step where what played into my decision making process for both of my past Jeep.

Last thing I'll mention is I'm pretty sure ACE products are made in China which likely explains the price point and warranty.
I used the search you suggested and all I found was a vender delivery issue in 2013 and pictures of no damage other than as other users have posted of jeeps beating on them with no issues.

The price point is because the parent company supplies OEM parts to Jeep, Dodge, GM, and Ford and because they order metal in such large quantities they get a significant discount and because of their experience in manufacturing they can cut labor cost to make the product due to the processes they use.

It would appear I was provided bad info on that bit. My buddy was building a JK for a co-worker of ours who had ace sliders and bumpers and so on. Initially he said the sliders came from China because he thought a checklist with Chinese writing came from the Ace box. When I pressed him on it when presented with information that conflicted with that, he backtracked some and conceded it may have come from the bumpers. I’ll admit I questioned the China thing because I thought they were made in Michigan, but at the time he was adamant the sliders had been imported and I took him at his word.

So admittedly I f’d up on that one.

are there any others that let you keep the rubicon rails and function as a decent step, i like the look of the MOPAR ones but I'm not sure the step will be big enough to be useful

I was wondering the same thing...I think if we can wait 6 months, there will be 5 new options. Man...this whole process is an exercise in patience.
