Long story short, I had my ceilings repainted. At the time, my hard top was off the Jeep and on my Toplift. I didn't notice that the painters got some white paint on my black hard top until we put the hard top back on. This all happened months ago, so I can't just wipe it off.

I searched the forum but nothing came up, I am looking for suggestions on how to remove the white paint, the normal ceiling paint, from my factory black hard top without removing the black paint?

Start with hot soapy water and coarse cloth like pieces of an old towel. It will take some elbow grease. The only chemical I would upgrade to is denatured alcohol, but test in small area first. Do not use solvent based products on fiberglass like goof-off, acetone or the orange crap. It will damage it.

Thanks for confirming that - I was eager to use my acetone or goo-gone, but was thinking if it is good enough to take off paint, then uh, it is good enough to take off paint.

I wish I had seen it when they did it, and just wiped it off then. It is 16 F right now, so I think I will need to let it warm up a bit and then try the warm soapy water.

Was thinking of Simple Green, but I think just regular soap for right now is the trick.

Thanks!

Do not scrub! You will leave scratches. Did you have any wax or sealant on the paint? That will make removing the droplets easier. But if its latex paint, try laying the towel across the top, wet it with car wash soap and water and let it sit for a time. That may well loosen it enough to allow for easier removal. If that doesn’t work you may have to use a fine paint polish.
