We have our JLU Sahara back into the dealership today, 4th time. My wife got hold of the Manager last night and he said no matter what they will get it fixed or replace the vehicle, I am not sure how true that last statement will be but we will see. We have relayed that we are seeing the issue at high outside temp and improves in colder weather which we saw at the weekend when it dropped to 75 but it still has some play.

We have told them this forum has been trying to figure out the solution for them but it appears that an absolute fix doesn't seem to be evident yet. Will keep you posted. For the time being they gave a JK Loaner and the wife's first comment was that the Steering was a significant improvement over our JL.

Interesting. I'm in Houston too. Temperature doesn't (didn't) affect my steering. It sounds more and more as if the steering issues are like migraines--lots of different causes, with the same symptoms.

I agree, for us the temp helped but for sure was no where near being a fix but it didn't take long for the heat to rise back up again and back to the normal issue.

I’d love a replacement Jeep as well but I waited too long for my special order ocean metallic blue Sahara.

Your replacement will have steering issues as well they have not re-designed the steering box yet. The fix is a new redesign steering box.

After 1200 replies and FCA doesn't have a clue ???
I am betting they have a clue. FCA and suppliers are probably just trying figuring out which way out is more cost effective.

The steering box supplier might be doing running design changes or reviewing parts to improve QC. It might not be a bad design. It might be a bad batch of steering boxes that were assembled with parts that have poor tolerances. Which might make sense because not every JL has the issue.

My service guy called me to tell me my Jeep is ready. They've had it for 2 weeks. He said they have gone over everything, including multiple Star cases and TSBs and said they've done all they can do. It sounds to me like my service guy is doing his best, but in the end its a FCA problem.

It is FCA's problem. Too a point I feel bad for the dealers having to try to come up with something out of their asses! We are up to 99 steering complaints on the NHTSA website 100 might be the magic number!

From what I have seen on these forums it appears that maybe 5% of JL's have the steering play issue so perhaps it could be a tolerance issue on the Steering Box.

I feel like im driving my old 69 Ford F100 where there is so much play in the steering you look like one of them old time movies, I got a call from my FCA case manager I have been advised to have a 2nd opinion. I told hiim that no matter where i take the jeep if there is not a fix from Star they will do noting and tell us "that is drives as intended no issue found" and waist my time. There is no point of the dealer these days they are not a investigative shop they are part swapers cause i think there are to meany liabilities for them to work outside of FCA. Just my opinion... I hope we can come to some type of resolution soon,

It would be nice if Jeep would tell us they're actively working on this....like we've got 4 engineers with this as their top priority. Because it seems to clearly be a safety issue, one would hope this is the case. Toss us a bone FCA, give us some hope, while we hang on (to the steering wheel) and wait.

Mine has been in the shop since Thursday the 30th. The service advisor gave me the whole it's normal thing. I demanded to talk to the tech directly and he was very helpful. He has been with Jeep for 27 years (At least that's what he told me) After explaining in depth the issue he seemed to take it to heart. He asked that I leave it for a few more days while he gets to the bottom of it, that was yesterday. I already had a case # from Jeep Cares and he plans to open one on his end. We'll see what happens.

I can guarantee you the percentage is much higher than 5%. Figure how many dealers are claiming there are no issues, JL Facebook Forums and people who just think the JL drives different and are not sure if they have a problem or not. Heck my views on my first video not to mention the amount of comments. I honestly believe all and I did say ALL JL's built from a specific date range to current have a dead spot in the steering. 4 door JL's

Even Jeep Informant himself said he believed FCA made the box loose after the lock up issues with the box being too tight.

The JK's are fine and drive perfect. Dealers finding issues with the JL's they have on the lot too.
