So I have searched this forum for info on rear storage security options, but haven’t seen anything recently. I just started driving with the top and doors off, and have seen the need for some type of secure rear storage. I have done some research using Google, but wanted the insights from those that actually go topless on a regular basis. My Jeep is garaged when at home and I work at a Nuclear Power plant, so not worried about it there. I generally don’t worry about my Jeep when I go to town or the grocery store, but would like to have something to secure items if I do take it on a short trip. I am trying to keep my budget relatively low, so no Diabolical setups for me.

I have looked at the Hooke Road for Jeep on Amazon, https://www.amazon.com/Hooke-Road-E...lpcontext&ref_=fplfs&psc=1&smid=AYN5BTMAOQ08E.

And I have looked at the Tuffy version. Almost double the price of the Hooke.

I have also thought of just getting the Smittybilt Tonneau Cover, Black Diamond. Not so much for security, but for visual discouragement.

Does anyone have any reviews on the Hooke? Specifically, can it be installed with the top off and able to put the top back on without removing it?

Any and all relevant insight is greatly appreciated.

No experience with the Hooke option but can tell you the Tuffy is great. I had it in JKU and now in my JLU. It is solid and built well. never hesitate to leave anything locked in the tailgate when going top off and doorless

This EZ4x4 TRUNK is probably the coolest I've seen, and likely what I'll buy. It's secure, but also folds down out of the way and (apparently) won't get in the way of the soft top either.

That is the storage rack, not the rear storage “box”.
Oops. Sorry.

Yeah, the EZ Trunk just mentioned is great o\if you at times need near the entire vertical space of the cargo area, but I hesitated from mentioning it because your OP was price sensitive...

How much stuff are you looking to secure? Would one of the center console safes be big enough?

I would need more storage than the center console. I’m thinking shopping with the family, or taking all of my gear to go run some trails. Even just groceries, without the worry of the wind blowing something out.

The only issue I have with the EZ4x4 TRUNK is that you lose half the storage area with it up.

Ah, yeah - it takes up everything back there.
If you're looking for just a shelf, I've been considering this EX Cargo Shelf, along with this smaller one from them that site closer to the roof. The downside (for me) with these is that they're hard-top or naked only. Can't use them with my soft top on. But I like the design a lot.

Can confirm it works great with the soft top and has done it's job once already when someone slashed my windows. It is pricey though and you don't get much room to work with. You definitely won't be fitting any luggage in it.

I went with this. It holds my rain cover and some extra towels and sweatshirts. With a little extra room. But it is just the wife and I.

This is the Tuffy system for around 4 to 500 bucks. It's what I started with but I have since moved to the Diabolical at over 3k.
If you were in Missouri, I would make you a hell of a deal on my old Tuffy box. It does the job but it is way over priced for what it is.

I get the budget thing but if I added up all the wasted money I've spent just to upgrade later I would be sick, so I don't do that. But do your research and get what you want, even if you have to save up to get it. You'll be better off in the long run and much more happy.

*disclaimer* the Tuffy does not come with the rubber diamond plate.
