Hello all! I have a 2019 Wrangler Unlimited Sport S. I got the Jeep like 3-4 years ago at 44k miles. It has 111K miles now. It started making a bad noise from the rear when I decelerate. At least I'm 90% sure it's the rear not the front. The Jeep isn't driven a ton, but when I drove it this weekend It's leaking differential fluid from the pinion seal.

I'm fairly certain with the noise the differential needs to be rebuilt. That's going to be 2-3k give or take I do believe where I'm at. I'm seeing the M200 axle on Mopar for $1,200.

My question is, since I got this jeep used, is there a way I can confirm what axles are in it? And if they are in fact stock like I believe, is there any downside to just swapping the back axel out vs. getting the differential rebuilt?

Thanks all!

If the one you are looking at purchasing includes axle shafts and the ring and pinion already assembled, IMO I would go for that considering how many miles you have on your used axle. If it is just the axle housing for $1,200, keeping the one you have and rebuilding the inside might be the better route.

As far as what axle your Jeep came with, use this URL with your VIN number added to the end of it: https://www.jeep.com/webselfservice/BuildSheetServlet?vin=

If you want to know if your stock has been swapped, here is an image from @Terrymo that might help:

I got that image from someone else. I don’t recall who, but I deserve no credit

Thank you both, much appreciate it! Mine looks like the M200 and that's what my VIN search in the link you provided shows too. The $1,200 is everything assembled, to me seems like a no brainer. Thank you both again!
