Anti-Spin Differential Rear Axle Options?

I wanted to get some more experienced takes on the Anti-Spin Differential Rear Axle option for a JL Sport S. I will be doing some fairly tame beach driving, but it seems like a good option for preventing getting stuck in the sand. What are your thoughts on this option for a 2023 JL Sport order? Thank you.

I have a 21 Sport Altitude, and the anti-spin diff was a 100% necessity. Sure, I don't do heavy off-roading, but we do get snow out here, and it definitely helps. For the cost, I'd say it's a no-brainer and I love it. Been in a couple dicey situations and it got me out with virtually zero issues.

The LSD is one of the last bargains left on Jeep’s options list. It’ll get you out of trouble more than once. Plus you get automatically upgraded to a D44.

I have it on my Sahara. It’s well worth it; especially for the price.

When I lived back in Indiana, all of my vehicles had it, because of our snow in the Winters. Very helpful, as I would think that it would also be in sand.

When offroading with my Dad in his TJ, we hit a lot of sandy areas in northern MI. So far, almost every time he's had to back off of an obstacle due to wheel spin and either take a different line, or retry with more momentum, my LSD just walks me right through it. Especially when a bit of articulation is involved. Absolutely worth it in my opinion.

For the upgraded axel yes. Just be aware the lifetime of the clutch packs isn’t great. My previous ones were about 15,000 - 20,000 miles but they are covered under the power train warranty.

How did you know they failed? Was it obvious or did you have to lift it off the ground?

This axle is sufficient for stock size tired vehicles.

It’s just a known issue in general, larger tires will magnify the issue as well. Pretty sure mine is completely shot after 34k miles. Too lazy to get them replaced when they’ll just wear out quickly again.

There are XJs with 200,000+ miles out there still with the original Trac-Loc LSD working fine. The key is to service the differential regularly and use the correct fluid.

Yes it’s a clutch based system in the differential itself.

I bought the JkU used around 30,000 miles and it made a clunk noise in very specific situations. I finally had it replaced a year later after some research. Traction did feel better after it was replaced. I traded it in a few years after that. I started to think that traction in 2wd in snow was dropping off again. But honestly the clunk was the only giveaway if you do not pay a ton of attention. FWIW my Willys JKU on Duratracs was worse than my 4xe (no tracloc) on the stock Duellers in snow but better in the rain.

Worth every penny. I have 45k on mine and still going strong with 35”s. I did change my fluid 3 times already. I use Amsoil severe gear 75W-90 in both diffs. You don’t need to use Amsoil just use a good synthetic and you’ll be fine.
