RCV Axles?

I've got almost 5k on mine with no issues, just a shit load of grease everywhere

I forgot to mention, I did receive a shaft that was machined incorrectly and was bottoming out on the snout of my locker. Rcv overnighted a replacement after I sent them measurements to confirm the issue. Great CS

Pumping more grease in the boot is more for forcing grease into the cage and balls where it should be. It's not the quantity of grease you're putting in there. The extra grease is just filling the gaps in the grease "mass", if you will, that is mechanically cleared through use.

I always followed their recommendation for service and didn't have issues. I also take mine apart once a year to clean, inspect, and service with 100% fresh lube.

Too much grease can be as bad as not enough as it creates too much friction/heat and can overheat the unit. A bearing specialist will tell you the same.

Also, you'd be the only person that has made it past 20-30k miles or so without any clicking I've ever heard of.

After that length of time at 2 pumps per oil change, you'd have a quart of grease in the bell. It went somewhere... it's not gasoline. Like I said twice before now, the axle doesn't consume grease. Everything you put in there was still in there or it got slung out.

Well Apparently I did service them enough to get that mileage. 2 pumps every 2 months seemed to work just fine.
BTW that was running 37” Pitbulls and OX Locker.

I"m new to running RCVs, a few thousand miles on them so far and they are great. Zero noise and the grease sling and clean up isnt terrible in my book. When greasing them, any way to know when you have enough grease or two much grease in? Like will the grease seep out of the needle fill hole or the boot as an indicator or anything? I went by feel when I just greased mine and feel like I may have over greased them.

Nearly 3 years 2 of those on 39’s and 40’s about 30k miles on them numerous wheeling trips, some of the hardest stuff out west and no issues , I did have to swap in a new end because I got clicking right away but it’s been perfect since then, I grease them after every wheeling trip

Put me in coach . Like I said I had a bad end that was swapped out right away but been great since then, easily over 30k miles

Off topic but man I loved the pitbull tires looks. Wasn't my fav tire performance wise but they looked fantastic.

Love the install pics. Those shiny parts from Apex also look amazing! I went with RCV, Reid and Steersmarts running 37s and its been great.

You can’t over grease them , ppl don’t grease them enough, mine are packed with grease, it gets everywhere but I don’t care, it keeps them nice and quiet .

New to RCVs questions: Does the grease come out of the boot and then get slung all over the surrounding area? What does the grease typically sling onto exactly? Are there any critical areas or parts that should be cleaned up? Can someone post some photos? I'm typing up a maintenance schedule/plan and want to add in the areas to clean up and keep an eye on. Thank you for the advice/insight.
