For the first 300 miles or so after purchase, I had my range est. displayed in the dash for reference while I drove. Now I check it every once in a while when I'm just cruising. I'm getting such good fuel economy compared to my previous 4xe's that I don't even think about how far I'm going on a tank anymore. It's such a liberating experience to not give a single F about how far I can stretch my refuel stops or constantly be trying to maximize electric efficiency out of a battery pack.
I've been tracking some progress on Fuelly and Gasbuddy with every fill up to see how good the fuel mileage has been (I didn't start when the dealer gave me a full tank, otherwise I'd have more data). So far I'm averaging 20mpg on partial fill ups (11-12 gallons) with about 70% city/rural use. I have noticed after this last fill up that my displayed mpg is closer to 21-22 though so it'll be interesting to see what the final tally is for this tank (I did the oil change and fuel filter swap midway through the last tank).
Realistically if I can average 360-400 miles with mostly city/rural driving (as I've more or less seen to be the case currently) on 37's, I'm not complaining one bit because I know the road trip mileage is gonna blow that out of the water. Be contrast, If I wasn't charging on a regular basis with my 4xes (to skew the hell out of the ACTUAL mpg), I was routinely seeing 260-285 miles a tank on 37's. 100+ miles of extra range with mostly city/rural driving roads is a huge win in my book, even with the fuel costing 20 cents more a gallon.
, that sounds like my drive and ranges, im on 33's and i cant complain about my range and mpg's, with all the stuff i have in the back . And yes , I don't worry about the range any more, i already know what it can do for my daily commute and such. Cool beans

Hello, fellow diesel owners

when you fill up full tank what does it say on the range ?
i recall when i first brought it home , it was full tank it was over 400~ of range
a year later , an i hope im not losing my mind here, on a full tank with Shell, i get about 360 ish maybe a few more miles
i have no idea what changed, because the window sticker also had something like 400 something range on a full tank, am i tripping here ?

Well, just got the numbers in from my last fill up, 21 mpg with roughly 80% of that being city/rural use. My total cost per mile so far is hovering just under .14 cents based on what I'm paying for diesel.

My question is how far into the fuel gauge are y'all going before refill? I'm consistently aiming for 1/4 tank which is putting me at around 13 gallons used basically every time so I mark the refuels in fuelly as partial fill ups (not sure if I should just ignore that or not). I'm starting to wonder if I should go a little further towards an 1/8th.

You definitely cannot do that when driving across the West. We finally agreed that we'd do our best to never let it get below the half way mark on those trips. There's been way too many times where the next station that has diesel is hours away.

One major thing to keep in mind is that the rang equation is also taking into account every single digit of tire psi. That in itself can lessen or add mileage to its reading. I wouldn’t worry about your reading too much. There’s too many variables to consider. At next full fill up write down your odometer and when it’s time to refill write down it also and gauge your true mpg off of it over time.

I take it this is in more remote areas?

why write it down?
why not just reset the Trip Odometer?

Most of Utah and Nevada? Hell, it's over 100 miles between gas stations on I-70 in Utah. Yeah, on the damn interstate. I'm fairly confident that the warning sign is after you pass the last gas exit. After.

Then, of course, there's no guarantee that the station you eventually make it to that claims to have diesel actually has diesel. Yep, that f'd up crap happens. And that's when you and your wife agree to do your best to never let it go below half a tank in the relatively remote parts of our planet.

Didn’t realize I scratched a sore spot. Not my intention, sorry. Just wasn’t totally sure what you meant by out west. Furthest I’ve gone in any of my Wranglers has been Moab and every road trip I’ve done further than that I’ve made with premium gas. Never paid attention to diesel but I figured the stations were fairly well stocked up for all the trucks hauling stuff. ?ā€ā™‚
