Thinking of ordering a Rancho front diff glide plate since I’m not ready to change the covers. Reading the forum, I’ve seen the U-bolts can be a pain but reading Rancho’s instructions, they call for threadlocker in the diff bolts when installing.

I figured this would probably be a horrible idea but wanted to check with those who’ve installed this glide plate. Did you loctite the bolts?

thanks!!

Why is the installing the way the manufacturer says to bad?

I installed a Rancho in the rear. The one for the front is similar.

I don't remember much of anything about the install, honestly. It was one of those I have time to knock this out before work deals, and it was totally uneventful. I think that kit came with a little tube of red Loctite. I did not use the red, as I was planning to regear. I did use blue Loctite on the bolts.

I like it, and would buy it again.

My concern is the loctite as eventually, I want to re-gear and change the diff cover. Last thing I want to do is potentially break a bolt in the housing. I think loctite as a permanent bond.

I don’t know much about mechanics and figured I’d ask people who know more than I do

I’m an aspiring basic driveway mechanic, still trying to learn the more basic stuff and figured I’d check before I did something dumb. Thanks for letting me know about the blue loctite!!

If you use red you can just hit it with some heat down the road to remove it easily. Tells you this right on the loctite bottles. Blue is removable with hand tools, red will require some heat first

I have the Rancho diff slides on the front and back. I use a lock nut on it and skipped the locktite. I have ran the skids for about 52,000 miles and had them off and on several times.

For some reason, I need to repaint them. LOL. They are tough and they have never worked loose.

Mind you the lock nut comes with the kit.

Not really sure how I rub the paint off them...

I just know that they have stood up to the punishment of Rausch Creek, Windrock, Moab Holy Cross, the Rubicon Trail and hundreds of other trails over the last two years.

Actually, I saw you post something about theses glide plates in my searching the forums and it was one of the reasons I’m looking into them. I was like holy sht, this guy beat the piss out of them and they are surviving…sounds like this will be more than enough for me

With all those trails, I can’t see why they would need to be repainted lol

thank you for the feedback on them! They will be added to my next purchase

I beat the shit out of mine. Keep painting them with red rustoleum. Doesnt really match lol but whatver.

I did use the red loctite as manufacturer instructed. Blue should work fine.

I paint them with a Farm red. The paint is used on tractor and farm equipment and is pretty tough.
