Hi everyone!

I'm new here, but I've been a Jeep guy since I was in college back in the early 90's. My first Jeep was '88 XJ. I got a TJ in '97, then upgraded to JK Rubicon Unlimited when it was first released in '07. All of my Jeeps were very reliable, and they took me to so many places in North America (US, Canada and Mexico.)

Now I'm thinking of getting a JL Rubicon Unlimited, and I'm interested in getting the AEV JL370 version. I've enjoyed modifying my JK adding and removing all kinds of parts over the course of 13 years or so. But this time around, I would like to get a (almost) complete kit from the beginning. I'm a mountaineer/alpine climber/mountain guide, and I often travel to various places a couple of months at a time anywhere from Mt. Rainier, Grand Teton to Canadian Rockies to Denali to volcanos in Mexico back and forth to guide clients seasonally if I'm not climbing overseas. It looks like a JL with the AEV 370 package with a Ursa Minor pop-up tent is a perfect set up for my use.

Anyway, I have a couple questions for those who got an AEV JL350 or 370. How does the ordering process work? Do I place a JL custom order at a local dealership first? Do I need to order a JL via a dealer that is also an authorized dealer/reseller of AEV? How do you like the vehicle?

Thanks in advance!

Answering this for others that are wondering about the same questions.

You need to order from an AEV-certified dealership (they're listed on the AEV site). The only one that we're aware of that's offering below invoice pricing is Dan Cummins in Paris KY (see my sig). Talk to Martin and not Lindsey.

As far as liking it? Hell yeah. It's a beast with better than OEM quality. Every aspect of it is top notch.

Get the Bilstein 8100 suspension if possible. It's exceptional on washboard trails while also retaining great (IMHO) articulation and driving as well as a stock Rubicon.

@Ratbert - thinking of ordering a 2nd 392 from Lindsey (just spoke with her). Why not? PM me if you can to keep it private.

She was fine up until I picked it up.

When I picked it up in Michigan it didn't have a temp tag. Lindsey forgot to mail one to AEV. I was starting a two week vacation on a lake in Missouri with no address, so I had to spend a couple hours trying to convince her to email a picture of the temp tag so I could print it off. Had to go up the management chain to make that happen. Actually it was my wife's yelling that finally convinced them That was painful AF and unnecessary.

Over a month later we were trying to figure out which account the Jeep payment came out of. Apparently none. She forgot to do the loan. That was painful AF and unnecessary.

Several times during the process I asked her if there would be any issues with getting it registered in Colorado. Lots of platitudes were given for me not to worry about it. Did she screw up the registration paperwork? Of course. The DMV recited a list of five or so things wrong with it on the first trip. That was painful AF and unnecessary.

On the second trip to the DMV did she have the paperwork corrected? She tried, but it was still missing loan details. Lots of phone calls with the credit union to get that straightened out. That was painful AF and unnecessary.

The CO DMV gave me an extension on my CO temp tag. It will, however expire before we get back from our Rubicon Trail trip that starts the end of the week.

Bought it at the end of June. It's now September and I'm still dealing with her screwups.

Is it resolved? No. Would I recommend working with her? No.

Martin is their AEV liaison. Go through Martin if at all possible since you'll be working with him anyways.

In summary: painful AF and unnecessary.

Ouch, that was painful to read. In comparison I picked up my New Jeep from Gupton in Tennessee, and took it back to Colorado to get it registered. Those folks had everything figured out - helps that they've done it before I reckon - and the day I went into Douglas County DMV I was in and out in 15 minutes with plates and everything. If Gupton was an AEV affiliated dealer, life would be good indeed...

I'm at the DMV now. Again.

Somehow the dealership sent the docs to a different location this time. WTF?

According to the lady helping me the DMV has rejected what they've sent four times. We'll see if I have to get another temporary extension.

Did I mention that this is all painful AF and completely unnecessary? Avoid Lindsey.

Ratbert: i’m asking the same question I posted in a different thread. My vehicle is on order from Dan Cummins and I have been working with Devin thus far. He priced the JLURD below invoice like they give everyone else, but told me I had to pay full price for the AEV up fit only. Is this your experience? Thanks.

I was told the same thing by them and didn't push the issue. Note, however, that I got my order in before the significant price increases that occurred in January.

Good grief. How does someone screw up that much, that badly, in that kind of business and still have a job?

No clue. All I can do is try to make sure that I don't send other people to her.

I finally received my plate last week for the Jeep I received at the end of June.

Check the current AEV inventory on the website. I can confirm some are still sitting on the lots with no movement. These interest rate increases are causing market softening. You should be able to get a deal as when I called on one, I was immediately asked if we remove “ X “ will you buy? Every month on the lot, costs the dealership. Good luck.

I am a great fan of AEV builds, but have always wondered why they only go to 4.56 gearing with 37 inch tires where 4.88 would be optimum for that tire size, and also, why the heck don't they use front splash guards to at least limit the destruction of the rear fender flares while completing the overland look.

Thanks for the info. Yes, this Jeep I ordered today is something like $4500 more than it would have been had I ordered a 2022.

You mentioned a credit union; did they have any issues financing the purchase with all of the AEV upgrades, from a loan to value perspective? Or did they just take the purchase price and run with that as their starting point? Thanks again!

From the credit union's perspective it was no different than any other upgrade such as an engine or a trim package.
